Hair Dye On Yorkies For those of you who show your Yorkies...Have you ever used hair dye on them? I've been told that this happens to some Yorkies in the show ring. I was first questioning to myself if this was even allowed or not? But I guess it's no different than humans in beauty pagents having makeup/body sculpting (implants) etc to improve the over all look. |

I think that is disgusting to colour a dogs hair! or a childs hair for that matter. I am a hairdresser and i have a policy on colouring, 14 years old and over only. Thankfully i have never been asked to colour a dogs hair and the answer if asked would most definatley be NO! |
hair dye 2 Attachment(s) some lady coloerd her poodle with kool laid all pink so cute and it washes out safe for your pets ..so neet will look cute for halloween dress up |

Holy cow! I must say that poodle does look cute. CRAZY but cute  (I'm glad it washes out too) |
The poodle looks adorable. My son did that to HIS hair when he was a rebellious teenager with PERMANENT dye. Boy was I ever upset. I must say he did grow out of that phase and is a very sweet decent 22 year old! LOL |
While I was living in Korea I saw many many white dogs with dyed hair. They looked like a rainbow with different color ears and feet. I thought it was really cute but wondered what was used to dye the hair and if it was safe? I hope it was safe for the dog. |
dying I used to know a poodle breeder who dyed her dogs at Easter. She would dye each one a different color...pink, blue, green, yellow, lavender etc..they looked like Easter eggs..then she invited the neighbor kids to an egg hunt in her backyard. |
In a recent competition , I saw a light silver Yorkie turning to a medium steel blue just before entering the ring . Later , I laugh when the handler tried it again to darken the yorkie , poor little one , he almost turned to be purple . |
Oh the multi colored poodles for Easter is a cute idea! I bet the kids loved it!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like something I would have went Gah gah for as a kid.......heck I would want to go now!!!! As for dying hair in competition that hardly seems fair, its misrepresenting the animal isnt it? But I have to admit when I showed horses a long time ago, I used black on their hoofs to make them showy and shiny. But that was allowed. |
lol @ the easter-poos! too funny and cute!! i wish i could dye siri Pink! :p [safely of course!] but i was kinda curious about in the ring- do the judges allow it? i know Gazou said a lady was trying to darken her yorkie...how exactly? did she dye him right before they went into the ring- i was a little confused...and is silver not a desirable color? i agree with the other person that said its misrepresentation. in beauty pageants the girls arent being judged on who has the best hair color, teeth and temperment so i think while the contests are along the same lines, dying your yorkie to better match the breed standard wwould be misrepresentation? jmo  |
No, judges do not allow it, if you are caught with a dog that they know is dyed the dog is excued from that match. If your dog is excused 3 times you can no longer show that dog. Some people are so desperate to win that if they know a judge likes a darker dog than they have, or a lighter one, they will try dying it. |
Whats the fun of winning if you cheat? There is no glory in that. What would make someone that desperate to win? I would rather lose and give an honest try then win under deception. |

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?! Yorkies are called "moving gorgeous gems" in Japanese.... They are beautiful as how they are.. So much competition .. if people really do that. Well.. then humans do that too.. but.. in this case.. it is like cheating.. |
that is because the win means more to them than anything else, and they don't care what they have to do to win. |
Reminds me of a past memory. In grade school I had a great friend. We did alot together. Walked to classes together, talked and shared things, she seemed to always be a winner. I was drawn to that. She was different then me. I never liked recognition even if deserved. She on the other hand would shine like a star. I never liked it, I would rather hide then be noticed. I spent the night at her house one night, it wasnt the first, but we played a board game, I cant remember the name of it, but basically a game of chance. I won a few games at the end. She got very nasty. Calling me a cheater, and even ran to her mom saying "she won" " she won" then her mother consoled her as she cried. I just got lucky, I hadnt cheated. She had beat me maybe a 10 times before that. Then when I won she went kinda crazy. I never have understood that. And after that we never did have a friendship again. We would speak if in the same company but that was it. She wouldnt even look me in the eyes. |

Wow! Thats interesting. |
I have heard that Yorkies' noses have been tatooed black when they get that winter faded nose or the freckles that some get..I mean, tatooed the noses BLACK to show in the ring. Guess the end justifies the means in some people's opinions, huh?? |

Hair dye's blew my mind, but now tatoo's also?? Is all this "extra attention to detail" allowed in the show ring?? This all amazes me. |

I am amazed at some of the things I see being done at the shows! From markers, chalk to dye.. When in the ring though I have noticed some of the judges will smell the coat of the dogs! If the person is caught they can be excused from the ring.. |
Yes, some of the judges are real good at what they do, and know what to watch for. I have seen them make an exibitor remove the top knot to make sure that the dog's ears were actually standing, and not being held up by hairs that were put into a top knot. I respect those judges. There are so many that instead of picking the best dog, choose who is on the other end of the lead. If I know a judge is known for picking handlers or friends instead of the best dog, I don't waste my money by entering under them. When people start learning about those judges and not entering under them, even the handlers end up not getting any majors because of it. Takes time to learn who does and who doesn't. When I first started I didn't believe that that judges were like that, but time after time show people would say, this person or that person is gonna win under judge so-n-so and it actually happened I soon started watching real close for myself. The entry fees and the travel expense totals up, and I hate paying when I don't even have a chance to win. |

By the way are you going to the Auburn show this coming weekend? |
No, not going to Auburn because we are leaving for the Louville KY show on Tues and it is just too much too close together. If it wasn't just the week-end before we would have registered. |
OK, my dentist when I was in High School was a BACHELOR: There, that was the warning.. He had a white shepherd that he dyed BLUE to match his carpet... OK... That's just wrong.. Bren |
I've heard of it being used on show dogs and for "decorative" reasons. That poodle looks wild!!!! :D |
I see a lot of people that dye their dogs for fun, especially around the holidays. They usually use those spray in/wash out colors that you can get in the hair products areas. |
I had a white maltese poodle in high school that I dyed a few times...once pink for Valentine's day and the other time purple for Easter. It was hysterical and got so many reactions. There were a few times that I was out walking her and cars literally slammed on their brakes when they saw her. LOL! I should find a pic and scan it.... |

There is only one purpose of breeding dogs, to improve the breed as a whole. That means as a breeder, you breed for all of the above each and every time you breed together two dogs, you show your dogs to it's championship to validate your breeding program. |
