I keep hearing about some show that is once a year I think around the Austin area where international judges come and you can get a international championship on your dog. Do you know anything about that and have you ever been to it?

Now I have one more question!! How can everyone agree, that US has the BEST dogs, but according to "SWEETY BLUE TOP 20 bereeders" (http://www.sweetyblue.com/sweety/Pri...Breeders07.asp ) the first american breeder is #4...
what is going on?

Yes, that is the show I have heard about. I have heard from several people that it is a fun show to go to. Thanks for the info.

The more I hear about all this 'enhancing' the more disappointed I feel. I know it goes on but I feel that is very sad in the fact when you look at a beautiful Yorkie you really don't know if the colors are real. I used at admire Yorkies with beautiful rich gold and now I am finding out that many are 'enhanced' to just make them appear to have the correct color. When I hear of someone being disqualified because their dog is too light, well, the next time that dog goes in the ring it might be the correct color or any white it might have on its chest or chin could just be covered up. It appears that the lighter dogs are easier to correct than a nice darker dog that just might not be breaking or clearing until later. When you see a beautiful dog you wonder 'is it natural or just a great dye job'. I know if I am going to show and be competitive then I better get used to it and maybe start learning some of the 'tricks of the trade'. In fact, this thread has been informative and I think I know some of the 'tricks' now. Thank you all so much!

Have you ever considered changing breeds to show? Find a breed that won't involve ehancing.....maybe a black lab or a golden retriever because I don't find many breeds that people don't enhance....even beagles have to be chalked or bichons being chalked the list goes on...sorry Barb but any breed you get into with the exception of a one color dark breed it's gonna go on.

I did show St. Bernards and we did finish one champion, all owner handled, it took 19 bitches for a major back then. I know even with the St. Bernards some people would use white chalk to cover the black freckles that were considered undesirable. It is one thing using white chalk to brighten the white but using a enhancer or dye to completely change the color is not right whether everybody does it or not. If everyone thought it was okay to do that to Yorkies then why have a color requirements in the standard and why does the YTCA have it in the code of ethics that it is wrong to do? My goal will be to breed Yorkies with the correct color and if they cannot win on their own true merits then so be it. I just could not get any satisfaction knowing that I won by cheating. JMHO

But sorry to say yorkies aren't the only ones winning that way...maltese, bichons are bleached, poodles have extentions, shih tzus have eyeliners on their heads and the list goes on....I just wish the yorkie exhibitors just weren't chastised so badly when it's done in so many other breeds....that's the sad part...I just wish health and soundness were of more concern than enhancements :( JMHO

I think Yorkie more like people beauty contest! You HAVE to have the potential, but you may need to help Urself a bit...

Actually, I never wear makeup, it makes my face feel dirty. So to answer your question, yes I like me the way I am, just a natural country lady. Nothing artificial.

Hey, I know I am not show quality hehe. I think a 'natural' beauty contest would be cool.

I don't have the skin for natural, makeup is my friend! I saw them put eye liner on a Chi and color enhance it's white. It didn't change it's look dramatically, just sharpened it up. Now some of the tricks to hide bad fronts and rears, etc. now that's a shame!
