| Suggestions to grow a yorkies coat Hi, I have a show Yorkshire terrier and she is a year old now! She has a lovely coat on her but could do with being a bit longer. I cracker her everyday and bath her every other day! I have been told to massage pure coconut oil into her skin but I am wondering if there are any other suggestions. She is fed on royal canine and has no meat so i have her on a good diet for her coat. Thank you in advance x |

| Bathing every other day is excessive I think & it can dry out their skin & hair. Show Yorkies' hair are prepared w/oil & wrapped to protect it. Maybe you should wrap your Yorkie's hair instead of bathing her so often? Coconut oil is amazing, but very greasy, a little will go a long way. What is 'cracker'? & why no meat diet?

| Hi, she is wrapped (cracker) everyday! I don't give her meat because of her teeth as she does not allow you to brush her teeth! I bath her so often because of the natural oils make her really greasy and if I don't when I do bath her it takes me exleast two baths to get rid of the oils in her coat! I have brought her some hot oils and that is working a dream at the moment. Thanks for the reply |

| Ahhh ok, I knew it had a meaning, but had no idea what it meant loll! She gets that greasy? Was a vet seen to check for any underlying causes?

| *Too much bathing can dry out the coat and skin. Bathing once a week is sufficient. *Coconut oil can be too thick and clog her pores if used too much, therefore not allowing her skin to breath. *Hair follicles are made of protein therefore a no protein diet can cause the hair follicles to become starved. Also if you look at dogs teeth their bodies are designed for protein diet. |

| You're bathing her too much. Almond oil is lighter to use in the crackers & it can take up to two years to grow a full show coat so give her time. |
