YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Akc standard for the yt I've had occasion to review the AKC standard as posted on their website for the Yorkshire Terrier. Much to my surprise I did not see a standard that included what the ideal temperament is for the Yorkshire Terrier. Any thoughts on this? Why would not temperament be included in the standard for the Yorkshire Terrier?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Good question Gail, I know it's an important part; so many breeders have told me this and will also tell me that this keeps dogs out of the ring, but I wonder why it's not in the written standard? I've heard that they are revising standard again, apparently they can only do it every few years, even if they goof up, and I hope they include something about temperament and the “terrier attitude”.

What is surprising to me is that the AKC standard as stands right now, has no part describing temperament; as does the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club)

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | It took 5 years of dialog with the AKC for them to add this little line about the temperament of the Silky terrier.. "Per AKC site... "Temperament The keenly alert air of the terrier is characteristic, with shyness or excessive nervousness to be faulted. The manner is quick, friendly, responsive." |

| AKC says that they are brave, determined, investigative and energetic. You're right though..it doesn't go into much detail. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I'm sorry are you quoting the AKC standard for the Yorkshire Terrier ; if so please post the link. As I looked up the YT standard on AKC and nowhere does it describe tempera, ment within the official standard.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I've been told that the YTCA page is not all inclusive, it more of a summery, and its says. “A Blueprint or Guide (Illustrated Discussion) as to what the Parent Club considers to be the correct Yorkshire Terrier can be obtained by contacting the club secretary. owen@kvnet.org” Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Official Breed Standard I wonder if it describes temperment more in the Illustrated Discussion?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Oh my, I think your right, and I do think Joey's a little conceited especially right after a bath! He walks around like, "Look at me, aint I something?"
