It is easier to circumcise an infant at birth than to do it later in life. More involved and more pain. Same with docking. When importing, each person will have to make that decision to dock or not to dock. I'm curious....you said your dog needed two wins to earn his championship. Is that two singles or two majors? Obviously, there are judges who will put up undocked tails. But there are many more who won't. I would like to see a picture of your dog.

You have been in the dog show world long enough to know you must have the tails docked to show in the US. Occasionally you may find a judge who will put up an undocked tail.However, that is usually with a handler and a judge they do well under. But many judges will even EXCUSE the dog, esp breeder judges or will withhold ribbons. Without docking, you will find yourself frustrated, esp if you lose to an inferior dog who is put up because they meet the standard of having a docked tail.

Talk with the vets at the KAH and have them preserve as much hair as possible. You may not be able to show they for awhile till the tails heal and some hair grows back, but at least you will not be entering your dogs just for points for others.

Hello Julie and Welcome,

Everyone of you on this group that is interested in showing or are already showing would be very wise to listen to everything Julie has to say! Julie is one of the most professional show people I have had the pleasure of meeting and her yorkies are one the best example of the AKC yorkshire terrier standard! I have seen this in person with my own eyes.. So I would take lots of notes and like Irene mentioned absorb it like a sponge! ;)

I thought that I had mentioned that when the girls puppy teeth are removed I will have their tails docked..

Melanie, what I would do is keep their tails. ~Now wait~ Try to show them and see what kind of reaction you get, if you really think that the tails will win them first place do it. By this time it makes no difference if their 8 months or 2 years. If you still keep their tails, I'm sure that they will produce beautiful pups that are even more beautiful than they are, and you could start fresh with one that won't have a tail...
