Last weekend , my friend Isabelle showed her two long tailed Yorkie girls and one of the girl won a 4th place . She received very good comments about her girls . I really loved the looks of those little ones . |

If I can purchase what I like and NOT have to pay over $3,000.00 for her/him I feel that is a bargin and I did not have to spend a mint! What I pay for a show dog is my business in the first place.. You also need to realize I have only been showing since Fall 2004.. So I am a fresh newbie, but I do NOT want to produce JUNK to take into a showring.. I only want the most perfect quality that I can live with and as I mentioned I feel my program is were I need it to be! Your comment about me feeling sorry for myself, was not needed.. If I felt sorry for myself I would of gave up by now.. I LOVE my dogs, they are my kids! I breed/show because the yorkies have become a passion to me that gets stronger with each waking day! All I ask was if I should or should not dock my girls tails.. A simple yes or no would of been sufficient! Melanie |

This is what I learned from Johnny Robinson of Trivar fame....there is a big difference between a show potential pup and a show quality pup? Many times people say they have a show "quality", when they actual mean a show "potential"..a potential is just that, one who has the potential to show, but may not develop into a show dog for many reasons. A show quality is one who is actually ring ready and ready to win...I think these terms have been forgotten or misused in the last 10 years. Breeders advertize show quality and the pup is 4 or 12 months, but not ring ready, age, coat or training-wise. It is actually a "potential"..I know I am nit picking, but at one time it was important. |

The only reason that I have imported is a certain line I LOVE and I cannot buy that here in the US.. Melanie |
It is the standard after all. ________________ its not the standard its been bannd in the uk where the yorkshire terrier originated from and will be banned in every country soon, i say thank goodness for that i for 1 do not believe in docking there tails. |
I prefer a docked tail and doubt AKC standard will change anytime soon. The standard clearly states tail should be docked, why take the risk showing different than what the standard calls for? IMHO that's throwing money out the window, I find it doubtful an undocked tail will win majors (at least in an expeditious manner, no matter the overall quality of the dog or bitch). May I ask why you were compelled to purchase out of the country? just curious! I find there is such a huge difference in pet, breeding and show quality from country to country, buying a puppy would be a crap shoot IMH. There's so many beautiful lines and predigrees available in the US. What I find interesting bloodlines and looks vary so much from coast to coast. |
docking I do not see a ban on tail docking in the US any time soon..not in my life time...but I could be wrong. I knwo a breeder who does not dock tails, but she sees nothing wrong in having her granddaughter ears pierced at 3 months of age??? I guess it is apples and oranges..but still a mutilation. |
I had mentioned earlier in one of my post that I imported these two girls because I LOVE the line and my Flirt is from the same line.. There are several different types of yorkies and we are NOT all going to agree that we like the same type! That is what makes showing and breeding interesting is the different types of yorkshire terrier there are in this world.. I also can honestly say that I have been ripped off more by certain show breeders here in the US.. I feel that we all have a right to our different opinions as far as what we like and do not like about the breed.. You may not like the type and quality of the yorkies I own and show, but I also may not like the type and quality of the yorkies you own and show.. JMO.. Melanie |
Talking about tails Hi Melanie, I am in Australia and we did not think that a ban on tail docking would happen in our country but it did and it has made showing and winning very difficult indeed :( I breed and show miniature schnauzers and have just purchased a yorkie to show, he is a champion and has a tail.He has been doing well in the showring but that is because he has great breed type and movement. You need to have an outstanding dog and be very competitive in order to beat the dogs that are docked.I would prefer to show docked animals but the breeder I bought him from did not dock him. Vets are not allowed to dock here either so I had not choice about removing his tail. You have to be very strong if you decide to show an undocked animal. www.dogs.net.au/bestenminischnauzers All the best, Julie |
Hello Julie and Welcome to a wonderful group! I did take a moment and go to your site and see your beautiful champion dogs! By what I can see of Beatles he looks stunning! ;) I also want to thank-you for your reply, it greatly helps when show breeders outside the US are also able to contribute their thoughts to a post.. I have not yet docked the tails of Yvon or Waneska from Hungary.. I have decided that if they need any puppy teeth removed I would have it done at that time while they are already under and if not I will show them with a full tail.. I know that it will be tough and I will have to cope with that.. Thanks again for your reply and I wish you lots of success with Beatles and your other beautiful dogs! Melanie |
shyyorkies, I am glad that you are going to leave the tails intact. I do believe the standard WILL change in this country, but only when brave owners like you take this step of showing Yorkies with tails intact. I thank you, and your new puppies thank you! Oh, do us all a favor and please post pictures of them in the show ring and with all the ribbons that I am sure they will win. :D |
Hey Melanie I am sure when the times comes you will know what to do, And IMO I like the Yorks that are imported and I am considering down the road to have one myself and I am very excited about it so do what you feel like you should I know this doesnt help much but hang in there! |
I applaud you for making the decision to show with full tail. We all want to be winners but it takes courage to be among pioneers in getting standards changed. Show people have to strut those doggies with all other aspects perfect and start getting wins and I'm sure before we allknow it things will change. A few good people and dogs breaking the ice is going to work WONDERS in the show world. Before you know it favorites will become those beautiful yorkies with the flowing tails...just you WATCH...LOL  |
