the puppies Dam Is the absolute picture of gait, it is so hard to explain in words. Some of my other yorkies kind of prance, she does not ......she glides and reaches with her front legs. Her reach is what just sets her off to me. She just has an air about her. I am going to try to get a video of her when the weather warms up.

That's what you're looking for....a strong reach, without that topline faltering.

I think it was Jay Amon/Montclair that had some wonderful articles on structure and movement in the YT Magazine......

It's been my experience in my very limited time in the show ring....here in Canada that the bitches that I've see shown are considerably larger than the dogs. Not always, but in general. My boy is on the smaller side of what I see usually at 5 lbs 3 oz and 9 1/2 " at the shoulder. But I've seen a lot of larger dogs that aren't necessarily nicer...they might look nice stacked, but when they move they don't move well.

I find that in the specials ring larger dogs are the normal, Sebastien definitely looks small compared to many.

In Vegas there were all sizes, surprisingly to me in the BOB class many of the well known dogs that are at the top of the stats were not as big as I thought they'd be, for instance Hit the Jackpot, Stringer's Something's got to Give, Diamond Jim ,Lane's Mini Cooper ....just top name a few are all dogs of little more than 5 lbs. This made me feel better about my little guy.

You're totally correct.....however, Diamond Jim was larger that the others. Jack is 5 pounds......Jackpot is middle of the road.

Wait till you get Sebastian to NY, definate difference.

Yes, I noticed that on the DVD's from NY last year, a lot more larger dogs there, compared to Vegas. The Specialty winner Oz's Over the Top is between 5 1/2 and 6 lbs and to me he looked small compared to some of the others.

I'm not going to NY Mary :( I wish I was

Why not? Sebastian deserves to be in the ring there...

Neither am I this year.....Delilah is still a baby and not in coat yet. Although, she shows beautifully, she still has a mind of her own and hates to be hard stacked...she perfers to self stack, but because she gets distracted at the weirdest times I still can't trust her 100% of the time to keep my hands off of her. I do prefer a dog that self stacks, they make a prettier picture...she's just not seasoned yet.

We'll be away on a cuise during the Specialty. I do have a surprise though....I'll PM you :)

I just received my DVD'd from the Las Vegas Specialty and watched you and Delilah, she is so sweet ! It was nice to watch as I missed most of it ,...as you know LOL

Yes, she'll be more seasoned next year for sure. Will you plan to take her to San Antonio ?

Planning on San Antonio......but, the best laid plans...

There's the Oklahoma Specialty in May, San Antonio in July and Bluebonnet in September.......Gonna have to pick and choose here.

Delilah sweet....Carl you got to hold onto her.....now come on...let's be honest......sweet is not a word to describe her.

Showing at a Specialty is so different than a regular dog show....it's going to hard to go back, but there is only one Specialty anually in Canada for yorkies, and it's a one day show

I do prefer the atmosphere at a Specialty much better. That and to be able to see old yorkie friends from all over.

I'm glad you said this because it's something I've wondered about, and I am trying to learn. What is the difference between a Specialty and a regular dog show?

A specialty is where only one breed is shown. They have Regional Specialties and National Specialties. YTCA has the roving National and the National that happens every Feb. in NY, the weekend before Westminster.

A regular dog show is an all breed show.

I love going to the specialties!! I'm excited about NY to see friends! I'll be at the roving in SA as I have been asked to volunteer with the health screening clinic at the roving :) I'm really excited about that!! My hope is to eventually be more involved with the health committee!!

Europe has height requirements since the question was asked but I'm sorry I don't know what it is. I know some that would like the height requirement be required instead of not to exceed 7 pounds. One also has to remember while showing is that it goes in cycles....some years the judges tend to go for small and then the next time you see them putting yorkies up on leg and then middle of the road. Seems like this year it's the small side they are putting up! I prefer middle of the road yorkie. I still prefer the eleganance but have started to change my views on what type I like.

Cant' wait for NY...Carl gonna miss seeing you in NY!
