Donna,

In some areas exhibitors won't share that information because of a silly notion that if you had a winning dog and they knew you were coming they'd pull their dogs....therefore, bringing down the count. Somewhat silly, cause they could pull their dogs once they were there anyway. It's something that isn't done in Texas anymore, because most of the exhibitors there know each other and travel together. They work together in building Majors and understand any dog on any given day can win, it's all dependent on the judge. My opinion is that is why the numbers remain up in Texas/Oklahoma. Even though exhibitors there want their dog to win and the competition is there, the competition is in the ring but, relish in the fact if your dog wins it wins against some stiff competition....the fun and socialization with one another is always there.

You know how sometimes you are placed in the right place and the right time to help someone - that is all it was. I think it was meant to be for my family and I to help this guy. Winters can be rough for awhile here and I am just glad we could help. He helped us find a place for the RV and just glad he was able to use it. It looked great inside, since we had totally redone it. It had a kitchen, living area, bathroom, and a seperate bathroom. So perfect for him. All he needed then was to somehow buy propane as he needed to have heat, hot water, and use the stove. We have a new (for us) RV now and love it. We made sure it was checked out completely before we bought it, especially the engine.

Here is the one we have now.

I know - this is what I heard too when I returned back to showing. I thought it was a bit odd. When I first was showing it is like it is in Texas and we all went together to share expenses on the trip. And it was so much fun being together. I can remember the laughs we had.

That is what I've heard bandied about here. I think ,I hope it is changing, as we get new members to our club (here I'm talking about the Black Russian Terrier Club) - our breed is just so rare, that it is helpfull, to try to build a major together.
Although I've noticed with the Yorkies, a surprisingly low number at the shows. Not sure why that is. It is a breed just as popular in Canada as the USA.

But for us they are an equipment heavy. We need to take fans, and a generator, particularly if there is no electrical on site, and if weève had problems in the past with electricity at that show site. We need awnings, and solar blankets, ice, and coolers of water for the dogs. Because of wider open spaces at least here in Ontario, exhibitors spread out more, so it can be difficult to make sure someone is watching over your set up.

We usually chain our generator to a nearby tree, and remove all water food and grooming tools to our van. We do tend to leave our crates in situ, and travel back to the motel in our van. We have two sets of crates for all our dogs. So one set is always in our van.

It is also harder to know all the exhibitors as they are dispersed throughout the show grounds, and sometimes there is a high public attendance at the shows. With outdoor shows you need to be prepared for rain, hot hot temperatures, or conversly cold temperatures, high winds, etc, whatever Mother Nature decides to throw at you today.
Bathing dogs, particulary large dogs is problematic at best, so our best friend is the waterless bath, raincoats, booties, etc.

Having said all that my hubby and I love the outdoor shows, we love to camp and hike and be outdoors. Razzle is also a good hiker as he showed us last summer on vacation. That little man, went with us as we built up to hikes of 5 hours per day over 2 weeks. I had set up a back pack on our bigger male to take the little one if he tired out. He never did! While our big dogs carried their water, I carried water for Razz so that he didnèt have to.
This sounds like National Lampoons Showing Dogs. And you plan ahead willingly? On purpose? Is it always a two week show?
What do you like for waterless bathing?

LOL on National Lampoons
- I like Pro line Plus waterless bath for our BRT;s. it seems too heavy for Razz's coat. Going to look at CC as was suggested to me.

I think I might have been confusing - shows aren't two weeks in duration - the longest show I know of is Woodstock that is 6 days long with multiple clubs organizating the show. Woodstock is an outdoor show set in a pretty park, and some exhibitors elect to camp on the grounds. Many more exhibitors are in their RV;s.

So yes we plan ahead and willingly too. My hubby and I do love the outdoors and with outdoor shows, you get to on beautiful days enjoy the sunshine and warmth. Of course the flip side is days aren't always beautiful.

Sometimes we combine a camping trip with showing. This is likely what we will do in late August/early Sept when we go to Kentucky for our Nationals.

Yes, Mary I know that is the reason why some dont' let many know where they are going but I never cared about that especially living here in Tx as you well know we try and build majors We are kind that way! And yes we all travel together and show together and dine together
I wish it was that way everywhere but I know it's not but we in Tx/OKC are just nice

I've heard the phrase don't tell anyone where I'm showing a few times here in California....I just shake my head......well maybe that's why they only have one or two yorkies at a show....I feel that I'm up against some good competition and my dog wins....well then it's worthy of a win....much more satisfying that way.

Texans just know how to be competitive and still have a good time.....

This makes more sense. They must love it.
I don't care for Show Off. Some people say good things about it. I find it leaves the coat sticky. Let me know what you think.

Not cool!
Looks like we need to find a better place where we can learn trough the different points of view!

"Show world" is tough! That is why it's attracting so many ppl from all over the world...
I don't think the restriction is doing to help to develop a friendship nor fair sharing...

Sorry!
