I am sure she did not mean it the way it sounded. I was just thinking that since the show site is already being paid for that it would be less expensive holding two shows at once but I know it is double the work. Since I have never been to the Bluebonnet Specialty I was not aware of the nice prizes.

I am really glad the Houston club does two shows because there are so few majors in the Houston area. I think the only time we have a major in the Houston area is when the Houston yorkie club and the toy club have their shows. You are lucky to be in the Dallas area where there are more majors to be found. Not that it is a problem for me since I haven't shown anything in a long time. Hopefully that will change soon. At least I can root for everyone else until that time comes.

Houston is in a different situation than Bluebonnet is....although they partner with the Toy Club, there is not that many Specialties being hosted the same time, as there are in the Dallas area....Specialties are going on 2 out of 3 days.

Thank you for giving me a better insight as to what all is involved.

I love all those shows out there.
Yes, they are really nice prizes!! Here is what my girl won last year at the Bluebonnet. I think she also won a tapestry bag - very nice and also a champion catolog of all yorkies that made champion through the years of 1984 - 2001 from YTCA -Heritage II book. And the rosettes are so pretty. I had to frame these since it was our first!

The only other shows in the Dallas area that you can count on to pull Majors, is the Trinity Valley/Collin County/Fort Worth Show and the Texas Kennel Club...... Houston has Reliance and of course a few in San Antonio (which isn't too far of a drive).......No matter where you live you can't finish a dog in your own backyard.....one does have to travel....

While there is a lot of planning for Bluebonnet, planning a National is outrages.....they're planning shows 2 and 3 years in advance......I know the Roving National is too. They're putting on Agility and Earth Dog Events at the same time as the Conformation events. Whew!!!! And expensive.

So true - you have to travel to get those majors! Especially now with the economy - one has to travel many places. I try to think of them as mini vacations when I go. It is great, since we learn new things about the area and take in some sight seeing sights as well. The last place I went was with my daughter to NC! We visited the National Parks and learned about the history, not to mention the fantastic B&B we stayed at - was built back in 1906. Amazing history! We also visited some amazing waterfalls too. It was a great get-away and quality time spent. I will never forget it!
Here is the B&B we stayed at and some of the sights we took in. And of course the show was nice - just way too hot. It was suppose to be inside - then when we got there - no AC!

To my knowledge the Reliance show has not had a major in yorkies for several years. It is still a 2 1/2 drive for me to get to Houston and about 5 1/2 hours to get to San Antonio. There are a lot of small shows in the Houston area so it would not be that hard to point out a dog locally but for majors it would take some traveling. The closest shows to me is the Beaumont shows which are about an hour away. There are three shows that weekend but it is usually a one point show.

As for the Roving Specialty.......please try to bring it to Texas. I want to go so bad to one of those specialties and the ones in New York. I can only dream.

Absolutely, there are other things to do outside of the shows. I know that for NY we try and fly in on Wed. Thursday is Canal Street Shopping, Friday afternoon is the progressive show.....Friday evening we try and do a Broadway show....Saturday of course is the dinner, Sunday is Rockafellar Center for Ice Skating and Dinner.....Monday and Tuesday is Westminster. So much to do......not enough time....

A regional club has to have the willingness to do it.........

The Roving National requires alot of work from the Hosting Club....They are planning the YTCA National as well as their own......it brings it's own set of headaches. Bluebonnet has opted out from hosting it, for many years....it sometimes puts a real dent in the Hosting Clubs coffers, gotta have a lot of bucks in the Treasury .......Not even sure it's a duable with partnering with the Toy Club.

Oh, I love the Westminster and the Specialty in NY!! I know what you mean! I only have gone once, back in 1983, I think. We had a ball,so fun to meet everyone. My chin dropped when I entered the Westminster - at Madison - I could not believe it! I have never seen anything so large. I will never forget it. Truely spectacular! I am hoping to get a chance to go back. Maybe next year.

While although that's true with Reliant not having major in "yorkies" but that's because the week before Reliant is SA where there are majors usually next year SA will be in June and so hopefully Reliant will pull some majors now besides majors aren't easy anywhere....We all have to travel when you show dogs so what I've started doing is picking and choosing my shows and save up the money to go. If you really want to do something bad enough you save the money and do it. This isn't a cheap hobby so one can either do it and save for it or not. I believe if you want something bad enough you do what you can do achieve it

You are so right........I know that I'm saving my pennies for NY, I've been lucky this year in being able to get back to Texas and Oklahoma twice.....thanks Tegamom1.....even with showing CJ for her, we pick and choose which shows we're gonna enter.
