There is a difference in show "potential" and show "quality" and a risk with "potential". If you are wanting to show I'd wait for the "quality" vs. "potential" but again LOL my opinion. Especially if you are new to showing it can get very discouraging with a potential show dog. I have a hard enough time evaluating my own LOL, I'm so picky when it comes to what I put in the ring so in my opinion and I was new I'd go for an older as in knowing it's going to finish rather taking a risk Again, JMHO

So far I have purchased 4 "show potential" puppies that I brought home at 12 weeks, from two different breeders, and all 4 are AKC CHs, a pretty big deal as papillons are getting harder and harder to finish. On the other hand, we have also shown 2 other bitches for one of the breeders, one was around 10 months when we took her and the other was around 2 years old. It was a whole lot easier to determine at those ages that those girls would be "finishable" and both finished VERY quickly.

For me, I am willing to take the risk that a "show potential" puppy might not turn out, but it IS a risk.

wow that is some great info...i guess i am buying her as show potential...i guess i phrased it wrong. the thing with me is that i want to be bond with my babies...and i am thinking that getting one at such and older age takes part of that away. thanks for your input.

well don't all puppies break silver than turn tan? i have 4 other yorkie and they all did that...they broke silver first than their silver than turn tan....

at 21 weeks old she is 3.5 lbs. Glenda is estimating that she will be in the 5 to 5.5 bls range.

thank you for that input also. I guess i am going to have to weight out everything...i really want a puppy that i can grow and bond with and hope that I will be able to show or maybe get a handler to show.

how old must one be to be able to participate in the show world?

WOW you had better hope she grows at 3.5 at 5 months old that is a big risk that she is not almost done growing are you signing a show contract?

by the growth charts she is going to be around 4.5 so i hope she is from a slow growing line

you can start them in puppy in akc at 6 months old in the 6 to 9 month class
but she should already have been started on lead if she is for show

not all i have had 2 yorkies become all silver and tan. im just saying her strands that are light are super light already.

my sister has a black and tan yorkie and he never broke color always stayed dark. You never seen any lightness on his head at all in the black or tan. just stayed the same.

thats why they wait till they are after one to see at least somewhere about where the color is.

first one is my puppy at about 8 months and then second him at about 10 months

third is louie step sisters yorkie. he is about 9 months i would say. His color has never changed really.

I agree I think with KYblue, or whoever posted 4 1/2 lbs full grown. that's what the weight charts are showing, and usually these smaller dogs pretty much quit growing around 6 mos.
