A roach back is a conformation fault in most breeds of dogs. It is a hump in the back. An extreme example is the Bedlington Terrier. I am a top-line fanatic!!! Its got to be straight and level. Heads clear at different times for different lines. It isnt a gender thing. I have had heads clear at 1 1'2 years and some at 6 years and some that never cleared.

Thanks Lynn for explaining this to me, I'll go look up the Bedlington Terrier..Do any of you know of any photos online of roached back Yorkies (Not to down anyone anywhere) that I can go look at to see what your talking about. I've been comparing my Yorkies to try to learn about the Top lines.

Wow that's something about the heads clearing, so I guess I won't give up yet on Galahads' head clearing. I was worried about it. I'm still learning all this and I do greatly appreciate all your help. Hugs :) Lee

OMGoodness I went and view the Bedlington Terrier and yep it sure has a roach back...I wouldn't want that Quality :D in a Yorkie that's for sure lol. Hugs :) Lee

Thanks for explaining this I was wondering what it was too. Do you by chance have a photo of one of your Yorkies with a thumbprint if any of them has it that is so we would view it?? Thanks and Hugs :) Lee

I had one earlier on here. Here is a photo of my boy I had years ago with a thumbprint (dark hair that goes up from the bridge of nose to topknot). Please do not use this photo for your web page. I would get some books and start reading - this way you will know the information for your site.

Thanks for posting your photo and explaining this to me, I can understand it now. You don't have to worry about me using your photos on my web site or my web page I would never put anyone photos on my web site or web page with out permission from them first :). Just wanted you to know this.

I am trying to find out some more books I need to get to learn from as I would like to order them all at the same time to save on postage. I have 2 on my list that I know I need and am going to get just waiting a little while longer to see if any more Experienced Show Breeders or Experienced Show Exhibitors will suggest more and I want to thank you for your suggestion on the book that you told me to get...That's one of them I'm going to get. He did later cleared - but not till 2.5 years of age. Due to his lines - I knew he would be darker. He did have a very straight coat.

You have the best books given to you already - they are like our "yorkies bibles." I would order them now - it will answer most of your questions.
Books:
* The Yorkshire Terrier by Gordan and Bennett (Wildweir Owners/breeders)
* The Joy of Breeding YOur Own Show Dog by Ann Seranne (Mayfair owner/breeder)
* The Book of The Yorkshire Terrier by Joan McDonald Brearley (mostly for information on lines and photo examples)
Then I would get the video tapes/CD by Sweetyblue for grooming, handling, etc...

I wanted to ask you about the Thumbprint you was talking about. Would Sofie or Weezie have one of these? I never really noticed it on them till I looked at the photos I took today. Do you think Sofie and Weezie done clearing their heads yet if they don't have the thumbprint? When you each say clearing do you mean totally blondish color or ??? color??? Thanks for any input on this. Hugs :) Lee
