| Yorkie needs new home in Knoxville, TN I don't even know where to start. We just had a baby 5 months ago. My husband got a new job so now we work opposite shifts. We are each hold with both kids alone - him during the day and me in the evening and night. We have NO time...at all. And sadly our yorkie is suffering because of this. He is a high energy dog and loves to play but we never have time to play with him. We barley find time to do grocery shopping so grooming is impossible. We tried to cut his hair at home as it was getting matted. It looks horrible. He is outside alone a lot and has taken to barking at the neighbors. Something that is not tollerated in our neighborhood. He also does not like my children. I have a 4 year old and a 5 month old. If he is sleeping and one of the kids makes a loud noise - which they always do - he will snap at them. Even if he doesn't mean to hurt them, I really can't have a pet that could be potentially aggressive towards the kids. My husband isn't totally convienced we need to re-home Nick. I'm hoping maybe if someone is available to take him, it might help his decision. There is no doubt he needs more care than we can give its just hard to my husband to agree to re-home him. He has been fixed but is not UTD on current shots. His pic is in my avatar. He's 3 years old and LOVES to play. He will cuddle at night but during the day he is high energy. If you can help, please PM me. I would really appreciate it. |

| Please contact a "reputable" breed specific rescue group in your area to assist you in surrendering your boy and one where they will only place him in an approved family home. PM me if you have any questions and I will try to help you!

| I am checking with our CA director at YTNR to see if we have any available foster homes who can take your boy in for adoption. I also notified LadyJane and will pm you...

| Hi Rachel: You are very welcome! Since you and your husband are obviously chasing your tails (pardon my pun, lol) between kids, work & dogs you may want to at least reconsider your "local" rescue group. Think about it...how are you going to have the time to screen an applicant, call their references, check with their current Vet to make sure they are responsible pet owners and have their own dogs vaccinated, teeth cleaning, etc, do a home check to make sure they have a safe enclosed yard and home, that they don't intend to kennel your dog or worse keep him outdoors, etc, etc...? You would be doing right by Nick to give him the best opportunity for a future with a "furever" home by either surrendering him to a reputable "breed specific" rescue group or at least a local rescue group. I can't imagine the feelings your son will have but, to be able to show him that you cared enough to make sure that all of Nick's needs are met would be a wonderful example for him. Since we were ready to accept Nick via YTNR, I'll extend the offer again should your other plans not work out. I just can't guarantee you that by that time we may have an available Foster Home for Nick. A last thought to leave you with would be to consider a Animal Behaviorist who might be able to help you keep Nick with his sister, Daisy and his family! Jo Ann
Hi Jo Ann, Thank you for your email. I have also contacted a rescue group in my local area. I really don't think we can surrender him. I would like to know the family that takes him. My local rescue says they do, on occasion, help find homes for owners so I'm hoping we can go that route. Don't worry - we are not going to give him to a shelter. And yes, we do have two dogs. Daisy is a yorkie/long hair chi mix while Nick is a full-bred yorkie. Nick is very hyper and needs a lot of attention. Daisy is low-energy and more of a lap dog. We are having trouble handling both dogs and sice Nick needs more care than Daisy, it only makes sense to try and re-home him. I don't want to re-hom them both. My son is attached to both dogs but I've been talking to him about Nick finding a new home. I don't think he would handle it well if both dogs left so I'm not considering letting Daisy go. There is a place called WellPet that does cheap, quick vaccinations. Our only problem is getting him there. My husband and I work opposite shifts so we are never home together except Sundays. Nick gets car sick and VERY nervous in the car. It would be me, Nick (we don't even have a carrier anymore), my 4 year old and my 5 month old baby - all going into a vet on a Saturday. I just can't see that ending well...what if Nick got lose? I can't leave my kids to chase him. Luckily Daisy is UTD on all her shots for a while. When she is due, the baby will be older so hopefully it will be easier. Anyway, thanks again for your email. I'm hoping to find a good family for him soon. -Rachel.

Quote:
