You can always look up a non-profit at www.guidestar.org .. Read their 990s to see what they spend on what! It was an eye opener for me for a lot that I checked!

If you are open to a housbroken, 4 year old spayed female who they describe as very gentle and affectionate, Petfinder has one available now in Rockville NY at the ASPCA there. May be worth checking out if you are within that area. I see you are from NY. My husband is a retired NYC Police Officer. I just got in from work. I think I may have found our new family member...a rehoming....and I will get back to everyone after we have adopted her..don't want to get too excited in case the owner changes her mind... (But I am so hoping to adopt this puppy!!)

It is a legitimate rescue. They have two locations... New England and CA. They rescue and transport dogs from states which lack spay/neuter philosophy to adopters throughout the country.

I am certainly NOT speaking up for these people, just giving a little FYI about about the horse trailer thingie!....I used to show Arabian horses and we had a "horse trailer" that transported 6 horses and had living quarters attached....well over $500,000.00, and that was back in '70's......so unless you see EXACTLY what KIND of horse trailer they are talking about, don't be real quick to IMAGINE it is one of those 2 horse open uhaul looking things!!!
