Biewer Male approx 10 months old I received in an email notification this morning: He is so Adorable!!!:) Skippy's Web Page |
Oh my, he is beautiful. I wish I was in PA :( |
He is a baby doll for sure. I hope he finds the perfect home. |
I wish there were more information. How did a 10 month old puppy land up in a rescue? Most contracts say if a puppy or dog needs to be rehomed, the breeder is supposed to be notified. I am really annoyed. |
Dee, is there anyway to find out who the breeder of this dog was? |

Happens all of the time! People don't care. Look at what Ellen D did...totally violated an adoption contract and then went on national tv and whined about the rescue taking the pup back. |
It is really Sad this Adorable guy is in a rescue @age 10 months old. It says he is now in a foster home though. It only says that his owner had to give him up because they had other dogs and could not give him the care he needs. So, we really don't know if this is someone who breeds themselves or someone else?? Anyway, I hope this beautiful Biewer finds a Loving "Forever" Home very soon. Wish I could get him. |
I suppose if he was turned in with any paperwork the breeder could be identified. So we don't know if the breeder was the person who turned him in because --horrors, he was 10 months old and not sold--or the buyer who maybe didn't think he was as cute now that he was maturing from a puppy to a dog. I am really puzzled here. If the breeder was not contactable or cooperative, the owner I suppose did the right thing but it breaks my heart. |
Better that he is in a rescue than turned into a shelter and put up for grabs to the first person who comes along. |

Please don't treat this thread as a debate. I am already angry as to what has transpired here and what is transpiring out there in the Biewer community. |
I am quite sure this rescue will work to put him in a home that will be the best for him! I have no idea why people think that rescues should not charge adoption fees. I don't see that $500 is high at all! I don't care if he is a Biewer.....not even an AKC recognized breed anyway...although that is another topic all to itself....he is a puppy and that would indicate a higher fee. I will say that the wording the rescue is using seems to be capitalizing on the popularity of this pup being a Biewer and don't totally understand WHY, but forget all of that and focus on the fact that he is a puppy who needs a good home! Clearly he did not have an owner who thought before they purchased and I am not sure who placed him in that home; but at least the owner did put some thought into placing him somewhere that will hopefully be his last move. Rescues take in many special needs pups and need to recoup vet expenses, although in saying that, I can tell you that they simply could NOT survive on adoption fees alone! Just go do a search sometime on Guidestar.org and see what the rescues spend on vetting! One advantage in having a bit higher fees is that you weed out the people looking for a cheap yorkie. Rescue is NOT for people looking for a cheap pet. IF they want cheap more times than not they simply cannot afford the upkeep of a yorkie. If this group does what I suspect they do, they will evaluate this puppy and place him in a home suited to HIS needs; and see that he never is turned over to another home again! That is the goal of most rescues and most people who adopt know that...and support rescue! I do not see where anyone can say this owner was irresponsible.......I SEE irresponsible every single day in shelters, on Craig's List .. hey...even on YT. Just because people are on a message board and say they love yorkies, does not make them responsible owners. Now....I am NOT saying that no one on YT is responsible. Just wanted to hopefully counter the negative rescue comments. |

People will pay $500 for a puppy! I have seen many yorkie mixed pups go for up to $600 without a blink of the eye. The amount of time he is in rescue is not important. Where he finally ends up is! |
If the rescue had him seen by a vet AND neutered...why shouldnt they be compensated?? $500 sounds reasonable to me...considering i paid 435$ for Pasquale's 4 teeth removed and his neuter. Plus the rescue IS feeding the dog. People need to realize things in life arent free. |

I'm not saying the $500 price isn't fair. But wanted you to know most rescues do get a greatly reduced rate from vets for work done. So, it's not likely it cost this rescue anywhere near $500 for a simple neuter and vet check. The vet I've worked with often does things free of charge for rescues. |

Adoption fees are not set based on the actual cost of vetting. I will also say that not all rescues get reduced fees....the important thing is to get quality vetting. IF there is a discount, great, but that is not always the case. Also.....one needs to recognize that a pup might end up in rescue with a fracture, dislocation, PDA, liver shunt, heartworms, and many other things that their owners failed to provide vet car for. Some of them are older and have adoption fees much lower than $500 but their actual vetting cost can be thousands. So...fees are set based on age by most rescues. The fees help to recoup as I said above, but do not even come close to covering actual costs. And, I do realize that you are not questioning the fee, but I want people to understand that the fees are not set up that way! |

I'm saddened that my thread turned into a debate. I never would have thought......I was only trying to get this Adorable Biewer Male out there for those who might be interested & that I wish I could take him. I think he's just Gorgeous!! Let's keep it on track here. He's looking for his "forever Home". |
I'm pretty sure they've been bombarded with calls on this little guy, as he's adorable. |

I think they will have no problem finding him a home! He is on their website and on petfinder and most rescues have no problem adopting pups from those venues! |
I think a point that seems to be lost here is the "breeder" didn't follow through on their contract with the buyer. Every contract I have seen for a purebred dog--regardless of breed, AKC or not--says the breeder will have first right of refusal to rehome a dog. And this breeder left the owner hanging. We don't know why the 10 month old puppy was placed with a rescue--could be he was difficult to housebreak, could be he was an only dog and was destructive or was a barker. I feel bad for the puppy, one more transition to experience. I don't think this turned into a debate. I think this also opened some eyes--rescues require funding, besides vet bills, food, etc. Nothing is free. And btw, for the "someone" who thought I was tooting my own horn for following through on good ethics, and what a responsible breeder does and should do in these circumstances, I think the YT'rs here want to know that there are breeders who do the right thing by their dogs..... |

I'm not following?? Not sure anyone knows for sure whether it was the breeder or owner of this little guy being the reason he is up for adoption. So it was disheartening to see debatable conversations about why, who, price, rescue, etc. Good ethics or not being the reason, we agree he will surely make someone with LOVE a wonderful Biewer baby.:) |
Sorry, I'm still furious about the breeder...and the fact that this puppy landed up in a rescue. We shouldn't be seeing this all ready. It is obvious to me that there are many YT members that would have taken this boy for a nominal fee. There was other avenues for this puppy other than a rescue.....JMHO. |

I may be wrong but I am thinking he was a surrender. I would love to have him and actually started filling out the application but they have a couple of requirements that we don't make :( |
Per his web page: Skippy is a Biewer (pronounced Beeva). It is a brand new breed based on a Yorkie. It is parti colored and Skippy is gorgeous. Just 10 months old he is a darling. Skippy has been wonderfully loved and treated like a prince. He was surrendered because his mom had other dogs that she had to care for and she wanted Skippy to have lots of attention - as he deserves. He is a healthy, happy, slightly timid boy. A real live Biewer! Do your homework and find out what that is. Then put in your application. Skippy is in Reading, PA with his foster mom, Kathy. What a special dog he is! |

Where are the requirements for adoption? I cannot find them. |
