That's the same problem I have with rescues. I would rather adopt a non-puppy from a rescue, but haven't come accross one yet that will adopt any small breed, even the 15-20lb ones, to a family with kids. I guess I am just limited to breeders, or keep checking for strays at the shelter. |

I have my own small dogs, one is about to be neutered. The other two are not because they breed. Zeus can't be fixed due to being a police dog. I could be the perfect parent to a rescue but because I have a 7 year old and dogs that aren't fixed..... its unfortunate. |

Unfortunately, this rescue group is incorrect in the statement they make on Skippy's webpage that he's a "live Biewer! The first ever in rescue! WOW!". I adopted my biewer, Jordy, from OKYorkieRescue.org in November. His brother was also rescued and adopted at that time. From other threads here on YT, I've learned biewers are becoming more widely available at auctions for the puppy millers. Unfortunately, as this breed becomes more popular, we'll see more & more of them turning up in mills and rescues :(. |
Who cares how he got ther!!?? As usuall we could beat this "dead horse" of how and why this adorable pup ended up there, what's important is that he find a loving forever home. I filled out an application and hope to hear from them. The fee is nothing. Getting a dog all up to date on shots, potty trained, and neutered, it's worth it. Wish him good luck!!! |

I thought it was important that they did note this on their website: WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE? Adoption donations generally range from $250-$450 depending on the health, age and size of the dog. Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after. Why does SAVE A YORKIE RESCUE charge the amount above for a rescued dog? THE AVERAGE COST FOR EACH YORKIE BEFORE IT GOES TO IT'S NEW FOREVER HOME IS OVER $600.00 This includes (if needed) but is not limited to: Transportation, Complete Vet Check, bring up to date on shots (most dogs have little to no shots when brought in), fecal check, heartworm check, lyme disease check, food, spay/neuter, teeth check up and cleaning, treatment for mange, grooming, treatment for ear mites...some dogs require even more. We charge a higher fee for the younger healthier dogs to help off-set the cost involved with the older dogs that come into the rescue. |
Is is soooo BEAUTIFUL! I would love to adopt him. I just don't have the $500.00. I have been patiently searching for a Yorkie to adopt. I have my Schnoodle and my husband will let me get a Yorkie, however not at that cost. I meet the requirements, being a grandma with no kids here and the grand babies in VA. I have been searching since September of last year. Every time there is a Yorkie at a reasonable adoption cost it is snapped up before I get a chance. The rest are asking for more than I have. I don't think the fee is outrageous, just more than I have.:( Sorry for going on like this. |
I love the new picture! He is beautiful! I noticed they lowered the price to $450. I'm really surprised someone hasn't scooped him up! I'd take him in a quick second! |

Where I live, people pay $500 for adopting small breeds all the time. Last summer when I was at the pet store looking for some supplies, a woman and her entire family including a little girl was in the store also. They had with them a cobby little boy slightly shorter in height and length than my girl who was then only a skinny leggy 4.13 lbs. He looked pure without a foxy face and was adopted out as pure from the local S.P.C.A. I couldn't see his eyes because of his long bangs, but his head of hair was shiny with a thick coat of black on his back. He was calm and non-yappy, tail docked. He costed just as much. If I recall correctly, she had informed me that she had only just walked in and adopted the boy at the S.P.C.A. for $550 just before stepping into that pet store. He had also been owner surrendered reason being she was moving out to another country. But then again, it's hard to tell the truth behind that as that's an easy line I'm sure many people use. This was when our dollar was on par to the USD. :p That being said, it's not a strange occurrence over here to pay more for adopting from a shelter/rescue than it is to buy one from a listed ad in the paper. The same applies for kittens. Only for the latter, it is MUCH cheaper and quite often "free" while shelters charge $120+ for adopting a kitten and some young adult cats. The 7+ year olds are free to a good home. |
Also, what Obie was saying earlier, if I read correctly, was that Skippy was vetted and neutered before he was surrendered to the shelter. It seems Obie had some kind of contact with Skippy's owner but couldn't get the owner to release Skippy to Obie and now Skippy's with the rescue? That's what I got from the post(s). Anyway, I'm glad someone here might be able to adopt him. I would have thought the foster mom would be so crazy about the cutie pie that she'd want to keep him forever and no one will ever be good enough! ;) |
Skippy is adorable and i would love to snatch him up. good luck to those that are applying for him. the $500 fee is a great deal. |
"I would love you more than you can imagine. Please adopt me!" That is what it says under his picture on the website. Anyone who has a Biewer boy knows this is SOOOOOOOOO TRUE!!!!! I can't believe this little guy has not been adopted yet. Good luck mkawczak, I certainly hope this boy finds a true FOREVER home!! If you adopt him we;ll excpect loads of pictures  :):) |
Good luck to you and Skippy! He is gorgeous! |
I cannot believe, no one has claimed him, he is beautiful, I only wish I could get there. |
Skippy has been ADOPTED!! YAY!:D Anyone here?? Pls update if so....we'd Love to hear! |
The rescue has on his info sheet that he has already been adopted. They were not to forthcoming on any other info other than the lady who had him had wanted to place him before and changed her mind and then finally relinquished him. They said he was neutered there and had all his shots. Also, he seemed to be well taken care of, loved, groomed, walked etc. They seeemed thrilled that he was their first Biewer Yorkie to be @ the rescue. They did not like me asking wh$500.00 for a neutered dog...Answer-He is a very RARE Breed! I said no he's not. There are alot of wonderful breeders who have them in the states! I hope the new home they found this little guy will be is last!! Sorry, I got nosy and asked some ??'s, Hope that was o.k.?? |
