Little Kirby needs a home again!

As you may recall Little Kirby is a yorkshire terrier that was born blind. He is sooo sweet! What happened is that the foster family decided to adopt him and well . . .he is now back at the Yorkie Rescue Group. Please read Dr. Will's message:

Hello Everyone,

I'm very disappointed to let you know that the family that adopted Little Kirby (the blind Yorkie) just recently surrendered him back to the Yorkie Rescue Group.

Candidly, I don't know why.

The reason it's so frustrating for me is because I had a number of well qualified families interested in taking him home but the foster family he was with insisted in keeping him.

The rescue group just contacted me with the following information:

"Kirby loves to play, loves other dogs, children, his toys and to lay in the sun. He will sleep in a crate at night, he walks on a leash, he does not like being left alone but that could be due to the fact he is blind and has been uprooted from what he knows and is now in a strange home and it will take some adjustment time. The potential adoptive family does need to realize Kirby is a special needs dog and will need special attention to make him feel safe and secure in his new surroundings. He is a healthy dog and current on all vaccinations, he has not been neutered yet but will be before he is placed. He is now 7 months old and now weighs 11 lbs. He is adorable, has the sweetest personality and just needs the right family to let him be everything he can be.

I found this about a week ago Home - Pilots N Paws maybe it was just for you. There are a couple of planes that go near Vancouver, if you could get him from there. Its worth a try for Kirby. ;)

Diana, are you thinking about adopting him? I hope so, the poor little guy. Wish I could go get him too!

He looks so sweet , I wish I could take him. I hope he finds a FOREVER family soon that loves him to pieces !

We were going to and we applied but I guess they didn't feel like I was a good enough home for him. It was actually a really frustrating experience. We have two Yorkies, I am involved with rescues here, and I am home most of the day except for when I'm gone for class which is normally no more than 4 hours. On top of that my boyfriend is here usually when I'm gone so the dogs are rarely home alone.

The lady told me she wanted someone who was home a lot and had experience with blind/disabled dogs. :confused: I have lot of experience with rescue dogs, which require just as much time. Whatever.

This may be a "dumb" question but, is/was the rescue group aware that there would be someone home 90%. I would rather have younger, rescue experienced people that would be home most of the time. Sounds like a frivolous response.

You've got to be kidding me, right?? I can't believe they told you that. I think your dedication to working with rescues is experience and dedication enough to be able to deal with a dog that is blind. How disappointing!

not to sound dumb but who HAS a lot of experience with blind dogs?? they aren't everywhere! I am afraid they are being too picky.... your house sounds perfect to me!

Thanks for all of the support. If they can find him a home better than mine then that's fantastic and I sure hope that for his sake, they do.
