Clarification - Kirby It seems that there is some confusion regarding the placement homes acceptable for Kirby. No home has been ruled out as of today. We have gotten many inquiries but only about 4 or 5 applications returned. If the best home for Kirby happens to be in Timbucktwo, that is where he will go. If there are two equally good homes and one is in Timbucktwo and the other one in California, he will stay in California. There have been people say that a transport could be arranged for Kirby to go to someone on the east coast but I don't think that would be good for Kirby. If he does go to someone that is not within a day's driving distance, someone will fly him to his new home. I don't think it would be good for him to be with one person for a couple of hundred miles and then transferred to another new person every couple of hundred miles. I have read of too many dogs that bolt when being transferred to another person for a leg of a trip or the dog has gotten away when taken out for a potty break. We are looking out for what is in Kirby's best interest and if it ends up to be a home on the east coast, we will do what we have to to raise the funds to have someone fly there or have the person fly here to get him. I hope that this clears up some of the misconceptions about what we are looking for in a forever home for Kirby. If anyone has any questions, please email me and ask. BTW, he is going in to have his baby canine teeth removed and a microchip implanted in about 30 minutes. He had been neutered at 3 months of age by his first foster family. Thank you for your support and concern for Kirby. |

I am happy to see that you are so fussy about how Kirby gets to his new home.. I cant imagine how hard it would be to just get pushed from one person to the other for hours at a time. Especially if you cant even see your surroundings.. My Cooper was given to me by a lady that didnt have time for him,, she met me in a parking lot, handed him to me kissed the top of his head and drove away.. Then I sat in a car holding him for the hour and a half ride home.. My poor baby seemed totally lost for days... Of course although I follow many of the stories on YT and look at the beautitul babies being offered as rescues, I am always way to far away to help ... But Kirby is adorable and I am sure you will do the best thing for him... and you will find him a terrific home. |

Kirby Update I emailed Patty Edwards and asked how Kirby was doing. Here is her reply Kirby has not been placed as yet, I am out of town right now with a family emergency. We have some applications that we have reviewed and once I get back home we will continue the process of reviewing the rest of the applications we have received, do phone interviews and set up home visits. Then we will make a choice for Kirby's forever home if all goes well. He is doing well in his foster home and learning new skills all the time. I was up there visiting with him last week and he is a sweetheart. Thank you so much for asking about Kirby. Patty |

Kirby has a Great Forever Home Remember Kirby, the little blind yorkie out in CA, well he has been adopted by a friend of Patty Edwards. He and his new Pop, Ric, who was the rescue coordinatior for the Yorkshire Terrier Club of LA, will be traveling back to SC. Kirby's new Pop is retired, is wonderful with, and has a soft touch for seniors and special needs yorkies (has a little rescue Mr Jones who is deaf and blind). Kirby is at a good forever home. They will be posting pictures on Kirby's myspace page. |

Kirby Update #1 1 Attachment(s) Hello again, everyone, Just thought I'd post a few updates about Kirby. These are older updates, but I thought at least if you read these in order, you'll be able to get all caught up about this wonderful little dog. Ric Ross I first posted this update on 4.7.09 when I first arrived back home from picking up Kirby in California........ Kirby update :aimeeyork Hello everyone, It has been a while since I've been online, but did want to give you all a little update about what is going on here at the Ross house. It was really great to be back in CA for a week visiting all my friends. Last time I was there was 3 years ago when I moved here to SC. After being there for a week, I came to realize that my move to SC is something I should have done a long time ago. Don't get me wrong, I love all my friends there, but CA is just not the same any more. The trip to CA was pretty much uneventful except for the rainstorm that I drove in for the whole first day. The week was great. Typical wonderful weather in paradise for the whole week. My friends who I stayed with were wonderful and really wonderful hosts. I wouldn't have expected less. Even Nina, the black cat I rescued, seemed to remember me. My friends had a wonderful dinner party and invited all my friends so I to spend the week bouncing all over the L.A. metro area visiting everyone. The Dinner was wonderful. Don and Larry are both really great cooks and can do miracles in a kitchen. Then, after dinner, we had a great time getting caught up on everything. Several of them have promised to come visit me in the coming year. Hope they do, I'd love to show them the area. The day before I left for my return drive home, I drove down to Buena Park to the home of Linda Bush. Linda is the breeder who I got Delta, Savannah and Bubba from. She was fostering little Kirby for the Yorkshire Terrier Club of Los Angeles Rescue along with help from Patty Edwards. I fell completely in love with Kirby the moment I laid eyes on him. He's larger than your average Yorkie at almost 12 pounds, but is an absolute delight. Linda said he usually barks at everyone until he meets them, but he didn't bark at all when I called him over to me. Linda and Patty said that was a sure sign that he had found his perfect home. I'm happy they feel that way because I am so in love with this puppy. He truly is an incredible little dog. And he is absolutely beatiful. As Linda and Patty had been telling me, you sometimes forget that he doesn't have eyes. When I talk to him or make a noise near him, he looks as though he's looking up at me, but then I have to remind myself that he is not using eyes, but rather is 'fixing' his little radar ears on my voice or my sound. It was great visiting with Linda and Patty. Linda had also invited some other members of the club so it was extra nice being able to visit with so many of my Yorkie friends who were in the club I was in. We had a nice little lunch that Linda fixed and that gave me a lot of time to get to know Kirby and vice versa. We got along right off the bat. He is such a loving little dog. I guess I should not say "little" dog. People call their little Yorkies shrimps, the bigger ones Jumbo Shrimp. But I think I've got myself a "Langostino". LOL I'm sure Linda and Patty were sad to see him go, because they have really bonded with him. But I do know that they realize that he has gone to a home where he will be loved and very well cared for. They kept telling me how happy they were that he was coming to live with me. My friends fell in love with him too and they have never even owned a dog. They are cat people. The cat, Nina, is a rescued cat who I found living in an alley at work. Took her, approx 6 months of age, to Don and Larry and she's been spoiled ever since. Don held Nina up near the back door where I was holding Kirby and she didn't flinch. Don said he was completely surprised at how close she was to him (nose to nose) and she didn't seem stressed at all. Kirby's nose was working overtime trying to figure out what that scent was. That night, Nina kept sneaking into 'her' room (where I was sleeping) to check him out. The next morning, Kirby and I hit the road back to SC, trying to miss all the traffic in L.A. We were pretty successful too thanks to some great suggestions from Don and thanks to my new GPS system that I had bought just before leaving SC. I stopped to visit a friend in Tempe, AZ for about 30 minutes, then drove on to Las Cruces, New Mexico where I staye the night. Then, the next day, I stopped again to meet with Pat near San Antonio. Wasn't able to meet up with Mel because she had a friend who had recently passed away so was unable to meet up with us. Kirby absolutely LOVED Pat. And I think she was pretty amazed with Kirby. Every time he heard her voice, he jumped around and wanted to play. We had met near the I-10 at a Home Depot parking lot, so the play area was a little confined. But it was really great to finally meet Pat who I've known for several years now through the internet but had never yet met in person. Such a wonderful lady. Pat, it was really great to have finally met you. I'll keep your address in my GPS, for the next time I make this trip. Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperating and there were storms when I went through Houston so was unable to meet up with Linda Eiswirth. I talked to her on the phone, but it was a little late when I went through her area and my cell phone battery had died on me so was unable to contact her till the next day when I reached Beaumont, TX, which is one of the last large towns in the Eastern part of Texas. I sure hope the rest of you can excuse me for not stopping by, but either the weather or the time of the day prevented me from stopping and visiting with a lot of you. Vicki, I am so sorry, but I think you would have had to get up at 2 or 3 am to meet me along the I-10. But if all of you who live near the I-10, I-20 or I-95 will send me your complete addresses, I'll put them in my GPS so I won't miss you next time. Kirby has already met all my other dogs and they all get along very well. Kirby even tries to keep up with Bubba when Bubba is playing with his ball all over the yard. I may have to put a bell on Bubba's collar so that Kirby knows where to find Bubba. For a dog with no eyes, this boy is just incredible. He runs full speed ahead. After he runs into something a few times, he tends to remember where it is. I'll just never be able to change my furniture around. LOL I just returned back home just this past Sunday. The trip was uneventful except for all the storms I had to drive through. On the way back, I stopped to see a friend in Tempe, AZ, a Yorkie friend in San Antonio, two very close friends in Mississippi and my cousins in Pensacola, FL. Kirby is delightful and a real pleasure to be around. He's also a great little traveler. He has no problem around strangers or other dogs. He has already met all my other dogs and all the kids in my nephew's karate class. I took him to the Karate class Wednesday and the karate instructor put all the 10 kids in the class in a pushup position in the up position. Then, with my permission, he took Kirby's leash off and let him wander around the floor visiting with each of the kids. Kirby's little tail was wagging full speed ahead the whole time. He visited each of the 10 kids and licked and rubbed up against them like a cat would do. The kids all giggled each time he went to a new one. :) He had no problem at all as all the kids when they surrounded us and wanted to pet him.. I was so glad to see that because I want to make a Therapy Dog out of him. He reacted so well to each of them and then fell sound asleep on a little 5 yr old girls lap after the class started. I'm so proud of him. He's already met all my other dogs and they all play with him too. 5 happy little dogs here at the Ross house. He truly is a little miracle dog. :aimeeyork (the photo attached was taken the same day Kirby and I got back home here in South Carolina.) You've just gotta love this face. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ric Ross in beautiful and historic Summerville, SC "A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that people throw at him." |

Kirby Update #2 This update was originally sent out on 4.13.09, just after his 1st birthday. Kirby update #2 Kirby is still doing just fine. We just finished taking a nap. He loves to sprawl across me when I'm in my recliner. He just had his 1st birthday on the 10th and we had a very small BD party for him on that evening. Just me and the other Yorkies. We're planning on having his belated but official BD party when all my family gets back into town. Probably next weekend. They all love this little dog, and like me, they 'swear' this little dog with no eyes can see. He's got the greatest pair of little radar ears! And a nose that is always working overtime. Especially when he goes out back with the other dogs. He's become accustomed to where everything is in the house and no longer runs into things like he did for the first 3 or 4 days. He's also become accustomed to the dogs yard as well and has a great time out there. He's met quite a few of my neighbors who fish in the lake out back. And he LOVES everyone he meets, especially the children. He really is a delight and I love just sitting back watching his antics and puppy play. He and Bubba had a nice little game of tug-of-war last week. Bubba made the mistake of taking Kirby's little pirate toy. (The little skeleton dressed in a pirates outfit.) All the ducks and other toys just make a noise once when you squeeze them. But when you squeeze that little skeleton/pirate, it continues with that laughing sound it makes several times per each squeeze. That gave Kirby time to zoom in on the sound so that he eventually was able to find Bubba. Kirby dragged Bubba all over the room. Bubba's not accustomed to that. But since Kirby is about twice his size, I guess he'd better get used to it. (This message was first posted on 4.30.09) Kirby update #3 I just have to share this with you all. As I have been told in the past, Kirby has a HUGE following of people who know and care about him. I found this to be true yesterday in a very real way. I gave Kirby his weekly bath and grooming yesterday morning. Then, later had to go pick up my 8 yr old nephew from school to take him to his Karate Class. I thought Kirby might like to go back to see all the kids at the Karate Class since he seemed to enjoy himself so much the first time he met them a few weeks ago. Since it was a real warm day, when I got to the school to pick up Steven, I carried Kirby into the school with me. When I entered the computer room, all the kids there swooned over Kirby and came over to meet him. Kirby is so calm and good with kids. He was in his glory with all the kids loving on him. Meanwhile, my nephew started closing down the computer he was working on. Shortly later, a very nice lady came to the computer room to pick up her daughter. When her daughter came over to her, the lady told her, "Look, Julie, that looks like the same dog we saw on the Internet a couple of months ago." I asked the lady what dog was that. She said he was in California and his name was Kirby. I couldn't help but to smile as I told her, "Well, say hello face to face to Kirby. This is the same dog you saw on the internet. I drove to California last month to pick him up." She couldn't believe it was the same dog. What were the chances? At first, I couldn't believe it either, but after thinking about how many people are on Kirby's very own MySpace page, I had no problem believing it. It sure is a small world where this little miracle dog is concerned. I hope you enjoy the attached photo of Kirby that I just took yesterday. He really is such a special little dog. There is never a dull moment around here. Kirby is a constant delight. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ric Ross in beautiful and historic Summerville, SC "A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that people throw at him." |
