This poor little boy has already had two strikes against him and deserves a mom and dad who will love him to pieces. Heck, I had a blind Chihuahua who died last year and I can tell you they learn very quickly how to get around without sight. There really isn't all that much you have to know in order to take care of a blind dog. Staying home ALL the time with him is not a good idea anyway. Sounds like someone doesn't know what they are talking about and only wants to make him into a scared needy dog! What ARE they thinking??? |

Poor little one he is so cute, hope he find home soon:aimeeyork |

that is rediculous for them to say... I had a Yorkie puppy that was blinded after a freak accident while playing outside. She done fabulously well and learned to run and play like there was nothing wrong with her. She now lives with my sister in Ky and is doing great there. Once they learn where everything is laid out such as furniture, food water etc. they do very well. You take the extra precaution to put up a puppy gate near any stairs or open doors but other wise it isn't any different than a sighted puppy. I hope that little Kirby finds a loving home and that the people that are caring for him now "OPEN THIER EYES" |

I wish we could send them this thread. :( |

You may want to see if you can send a link to this thread. I do not if that would create problems for you from a YT point of view or just get them mad and not even consider you any further. I would get another opinion. |

Did the foster /adoptive family have disabled dog experience ? If that was a requirement for you I am assuming it was for them also , and just look where all that 'experience ' got Kirby...Right back to needing a home. To turn down a good home.....They should be ashamed. |

That is sad and I am sorry you can't get him. |

If a rescue person can't rescue a pup from another rescue group who can? That's just rediculous. They don't know what they just took away from this little guy. I hope he does find the perfect home, if there is such a thing. He's so adorable. |

I have a blind dauchsund. She was born with no eyes and I have had her for 12 yrs. A blind dog isn't any more difficult than a seeing one in my opionion. It sounds like a really dumb reason they denined you for adoption. |

this just breaks my heart that someone with much experience and a heart of gold is willing to take him yet they are saying NO  |

checking to see if there is an update on Kirby |

Just like a person, if you treat them like their handicapped, they'll act like their handicapped! |

I just read through this whole thread - I can't believe they turned you down! How STUPID!! I had a Cocker Spaniel that was blind (well not COMPLETELY...but basically - she had lost 90-95% of her vision as she got older) - and anyway, basically nothing changed, as far as "taking care of her" went, from when she could see to when she couldn't. I mean, for them to say that they wanted someone that had experience with blind dogs - uhhhh.. Like someone else said in this thread, are there THAT many people that really do?? It's not like there are blind dogs running around all over the place waiting to be adopted  Sorry, but if you ask me, they really goofed when they told you no  That sweet baby needs a home and it sounds like yours was just perfect for him. Oh this makes me mad! Are there any updates at all on him?? I just wonder if he has found a home yet  That poor little angel. |

I got an e-mail a couple of days ago from Patty, the lady who is helping coordinate rescue efforts for little Kirby. From what I understand, she is NOT involved with the rescue, she's just taken up a personal interest in him. Hi, I just wanted to let you know that we have a woman who is interested in Little Kirby, she has just sent me an email and we are going to send her an application to fill out and then we will talk to her on the phone. As it stands she sounds like a good candidate, she has emailed us showing an interest but like anyone else she has to go through the application and interview process. I just wanted to let you know as yet she is the only inquiry we currently have. She is located in North Dakota. Thanks, Patty I hope it works out for him! |
