What the heck? Who on earth would make something like this and who on earth would use one? I'm sorry if I offend anyone by saying this, but with time, patience, effort, understanding and a never-give-up attitude, you can train a dog where to go and where not to go with praise, positive reinforcement and treats. It can be a very rewarding experience for both your pup and you. I don't believe anyone should ever have to go to these lengths to confine an animal! And this is vet approved?? My vet would never say "yes" to this! This teaches avoidance via fear instead of avoidance for the pleasure of pleasing their master - which is what proper training gives. UGH...I don't know why but this thing infuriates me. They say it's for areas in which positive reinforcement is not effective. I have never come across anything in which positive reinforcement and proper training is not effective and we've come across everything from a mean raccoon to a very hot little poodle with sex appeal, to a huge clown on stilts (literally) - and training works for everything. I don't give a backwards flying rat's butt if it is a very tiny amount of pain (like a carpet shock) or a large amount of pain - NO animal should ever be placed in the position where purposeful pain is involved. Scat Mats for Dogs or Cats - Repellents - Training & Behavior - PetSmart Please don't get this. Our dogs never step foot in the kitchen at all, because the stove is on often, and there are cords, etc. They didn't require a zap to learn!

I've seen Victoria Stillwell use them on her show. I've never felt the sensation they emit so I have no opinion at this point.

| I hate these things, I've felt them, not horrendous or painful...but I don't like anything that gives them a sensation at all...shock collars, vibe collars...I just don't like it...these mats are mean if you ask me.

Why would they make such a thing ? I have seen the mat that sounds an alarm & would use one if needed but the zap I actually have a shock collar for my Wolfhound BUT never have used the zap AND did not buy it for the shock aspect of it but for the beeping part of it & it worked wonderful.

I use this for my cat, they were peeing on the stove in the middle of the night and nothing would work except this. The shock is not so bad as I tested it on myself first.

Yes BUT, he's never allowed outside alone with them as he thinks he is a yorkie & tries to play like a yorkie. He tiptoes around them in the house but outside is a whole other story, even at 10 yrs old he thinks he's a puppy. So they get separate outside play times.
