Dog Food? Any tips?

The pet food companies are "self regulating." Meaning they do pretty much what they want to. A responsible pet owner needs to do a lot of research into the company they choose to buy their pet food from.

What are the protein sources? Are they grass fed free range animals or are they the typical chemically injected animals on the market? Are they using the left over parts of the animal or are they using the better cuts of meat? It can make a huge difference in the health of your pet. Are the fruits and vegetables organic or are they the typical genetically engineered kind that are mass marketed?

There are huge differences in quality and it takes a while to be able to distinguish a company that is simply putting out cheap ingredients for mass marketing and one that really cares about the product they are producing.

100% agree with you! I was a new owner & didn't realize how bad Purina was but I research EVERYTHING now! It makes me wonder if they are willing to do this to dog food & get away with it I wonder what they are doing to our food? Sickening! :/

Your are right. Sadly the human food industry is doing pretty much the same thing to our food. The same large scale run meat producers inject the animals for human consumption with antibiotics, hormones, and steroids. Some think this may be why our young girls are starting menstrual cycles so much earlier than they used to.....among other issues. Once upon a time crop rotation was used to make sure our soil was not depleted of nutrients but now they just use manufactured fertilizers in the same soil over and over. Our farm lands have been depleted by poor farming methods. They genetically engineer our fruits and vegetables so they will be bug resistant and of uniform size so they will all fit in that nice plastic bag. Don't even get me started on the foods in boxes!

We all love our pets that's for sure but I just can't stand how when someone says one thing & at the time they didn't know any better it's all out war on this site.

I didn't continue to say don't feed you dog that my first post to you was please don't feed your dog that and after that I was responding to you and explaining my stance for not just you but other people who read this post. Like I said its about the company as well as whats in the food and most of the good food that was recalled was by diamond which already had previous problems in the past and should have been a warning to those who where feeding it and it was to me. I would not and will not by a diamond food because of research of the company. Feeding a dog Purina is very different then eating fast food. Purina's treats where killing dogs if I have a few fries a day (not that I do) as a treat they aren't going to kill me. Even home cooking can go bad if the human food is recalled which happens even more then dog food but at least you know what is going into it and stuff.

I eat spinach I know it's been recalled but for some reason I take my risks with fresh foliage instead if drive thrus...


Corn is the most common GMO crop most fruits and vegis are not GMO crops...yet.
