| Clippers - What do you reccomand? My aunt is going to buy some good dog clippers for me in Petsmart and bring them to Iceland (cause they are too expensive here), I don't know what I should choose I've been looking into the Petsmart webpage, what would you reccomand there? I need a clipper that doesn't get hot too quickly, that I can shave Fido pretty short (I always leave about half cm. - 1 cm. of the coat, not more than that cause it is so thick). Also, I want proffesional clippers that will last, not something cheap that ruins my dog coat (I've bought few of those). So, what do you reccomand? And also, what blade should I buy that leaves about half a centimeter - 1 centimeter left? Thanks, I hope someone can help me !

| I will be watching this closely....I trim my dogs all down during summer...I will be interested to see what the "pros" on here recommend! I will tell you what I use....but dont go by me! I use Oster Golden A-5, Oster Turbo A-5, and I do ears and sanitary areas with Wahl P'nut, which I love! For a blade, I use.....now dont kill yourselves laughing at me......#10 blade, #3.75 Finishing Cut blade, and a #5 skip tooth blade, which I never can get to work for me!....or maybe they ARE doing what they are supposed to do and I just dont like it! |

| i stopped buying those kind. i went to amazon and spent 200 bucks on a professional pair of andis clippers and they are quiet and go through the toughtest of mats. after four groomings they are now paying for themselves and i no longer have to rely on a groomer to do it for me.

| Sorry I'm of no help in this area... I keep my girls hair long (except for sanitary, and the simple trimmer I have takes care of what I don't get with scissors ) Hopefully some more members have logged on this evening and will have suggestions...

| I have a cheaper pair of Andis clippers that I really like. They came with a 3 different blades and three comb things. I have only been grooming on my own for a couple of months, so I am really know expert. But I did do research about different clippers and these had the best reviews for price ratio. I haven't had any problems with them.

| I actually don't use pet clippers on my girls. I feel that yorkies' coat is so much like human hair that it's overkill to invest in pet clippers. I'm sure Oster and Andis are great clippers but just too pricey at the pet stores. I'm not sure what is available for you where you live though but I'm sure you can purchase things online. I purchased a professional human set of clippers at the Sally Beauty outlet that we have in Canada. They are all over the US too and I'm not sure if they sell online or not. The one I got was a top of the line human one that runs on a motor just like the pet ones. I got it on sale and I think I paid $69.00 for the full set. It also came with a rechargeable mustache trimmer which is so great for the ear tips. I bought a new blade for the mustache trimmer in case it got dull which was $19.00 but I haven't even had to use it yet . It's great that you can buy replacement blades though. Since I groom the girls myself I save so much on this that if this set eventually wears out I'll just buy a new one from there but it's been almost 5 years now and they still work like new. The other thing that I purchased that I use allot if a good set of shears. I have several thinning shears and sharp round tip and straight shears. I like the Miracle Coat brand. I hope this helps you out somewhat. Maybe there is an outlet where you live where they also sell professional human clippers? It only costs like $5.00 a year to join the Sally Beauty Club, $2.50 in the US I believe and they carry professional hair and nail products for hairdressers which is great. |

| With someone's recommendation, I bought the: Conair HC200GB It's for "humans" but read that it worked great for their furbies so I bought it. I'm not sure why but it doesn't work for my pups. I run it through their fur and nothing. I tried with different parts but just didn't work for me. So now I'm looking for a new clipper and thinking I should just get the ones for pets hoping I'd have better luck with those. The one I'm looking at for the moment is: Wahl Pro-Series - Walmart.com "Wahl Pro-Series, Complete Pet Clipper Kit Corded or Cordless Operation" Seems to have decent reviews but would love to get more feedback who have this product or something similar. |

| I'm looking at buying a good set of clippers for the pups. I groom them myself and have been for the past few years with a cheap set of clippers. We have a Sally's just down the street, so I might have to check them out!

| Update! First, I have to take back what I said about the Conair HC200GB. It DOES work. The issue was, whoever the genius that put it together had the blade on backwards. And so, there was a tiny gap between the first/second blade. Second, I ended up buying the Walh (model: 9591-100). Works wonderfully! My pups have fine hair and Magnus has a LOT more fur then Zoey but seems to work well for both. Btw, I noticed the conair's issue AFTER I bought the Walh. I decided to keep the Walh b/c it was cordless so if anything, I'll have the conair as a back up. Or I can always donate it! Quote:
