I love the way this one looks, and I've seen allot of people using the same design on etsy and other places.. my only concern is because the design velcros both around the neck and around the belly there is a chance that some tension is placed around her neck. Maybe I'm being paranoid, I make sure to sew the D ring down on her back so it's pulling from her waist not her neck.. But if there are other patterns/styles that work better I would like to try them out and see what works best.

That little red white and blue is adorable!!!

I have a pattern I bought that has the same concept except that it velcros on the side and not under the neck. I haven't made it yet but I am spending my weekend sewing. Walmart had a lot of their fabric on clearance so I was buying it up. My husband just sighed and walked away-he says if the dogs are this spoiled, how bad is it going to be when we have a baby?? Lol

Thanks!! It looks like the McCalls pattern adds a piece in the middle to keep it from pulling up on the neck.. I like that idea, I might try modifying what I have to see if that solves my issue. Thanks!!

Oh and yeah, it's just as bad with a baby, though I sew a lot LESS for my daughter than for my dog.. baby and kids clothes are easy to find pre-made and cute.. most dog clothes are expensive and cheesy in the stores and not very functional since they don't usually incorporate a harness.

Not sure how big your fur babies are, but I found that I can buy the quilt squares and it's enough for a dress or two, (for my tiny baby it could make 4 dresses, but I made another set for an adult dog of a friend of mines as well) I went to JoAnns and paid I think 75 cents for the fabric I used for the 4th of July dress since they have them on sale.

I've made a few like the ones at the top and they seem to work really well. And it's definitely cheaper to DIY. Check out bandanas as a fabric source also. They're generally no more than a buck or two and come in all sorts of cool prints. I did these two for our trip to Ft. Worth earlier this year, used bandanas to line a lightweight denim. Turned out kinda cute if I do say so myself:D

Noah is 1.2 pounds, but he's only 12 weeks. Allie is 3.2 and she's 6 months. Walmart had pre packaged material 2 yards for 1.20-2.70 depending on the patterns. I did pick up some quilt blocks as well, since they were clearances .30 cents. I got lots of cute stuff and will post some pics. I'll try out the pattern for the harness and see how it goes. I could always scan it in and send it to you, but it would definitelynhave to be scaled down for your little one.

I'm making OU vests for my moms malt-chi, my friends yorkie and noah, and a dress for Allie too. I love the little cheerleader dresses lol. Your baby needs a cheerleader dress too!!

I want to make a cheerleader dress for Betty Boop this year. Better yet, do you make and sell them? I would be interested if you did. We are big Cowboy fans here in Waco! Do you have a pattern number of an easy one? Thanks!

Little cheerleader dresses are easy to make and so cute. I made and sold tons of them on ebay last fall. I just did the basic harness for the top and did a box pleat skirt. They are really cute and you can get the iron on letters at walmart to put the team initials on the harness.

Here is a picture of Jada wearing her University of Tennessee cheerleader dress I made and one of her and Bogie in his matching vest.

So cute!! WOO HOO UT!! I don't go there, but still get excited when I hear it because my uncle is a professor there!! :D

So you have a pattern for the cheerleader dress and harness? Just wondering...you all make it sound so simple...but it looks hard! :(

I want to give it a try and see how it turns out. :)

I don't have a pattern...I made my own from an exsisting harness for the bodice (make sure and cut a little larger than exsisting harness to allow for seams) and just cut out squares of fabric in alternating colors (think checkerboard) I don't know how to give instructions on the box pleating, but it is pretty simple and you can probably google box pleats for step by step instructions

Thanks!! Once I make mine, I will post pictures. LOL it won't be for awhile though.

Sooo cute...I bet they're really easy to make too. Have you ever tried snaps instead of velcro? Maybe a row of 3 snaps (strong holding ones) instead of velcro?...do you think that would work?

I did snaps on a few of the first harnesses I made. If you have a puller they can pull loose. It is also a lot cheaper to buy the 5 yrd rolls of heavy duty velcro from ebay vs the small pkgs that I can get here locally and it is really strong and it is hard to find (for me anyways) the sew on velcro as all I have in my town is walmart and they sell the stick on velcro which is useless.

...that's what I thought. I've seen (on GW Little I think) where they have harness dresses that have a harness inside of the dress. Looks like a great idea! Instead of sewing velcro around the front chest and waist, there's narrow harness strapping running through there and it comes out where the "D" ring is. That way the dress is slipped on over their head and legs and the leash is attached to the harness strapping instead of the dress...I might try that design and see how it goes. ???

I use FabricFusion iron on velcro strips, I got a box on clearance years ago with 15 yards of the stuff.. I love it, works for so many things and has never come loose for me and has a really strong hold. Snaps seem like they would take longer to put on and not be as adjustable in size, not to mention come free with pulling.. if you get a stronger snap it may be harder to get on and off too..

The dress and vest I made for Allie and Noah have snaps. I happened to have them already and didn't want to run to the store again, so it's what I used. I like the snaps, but a pain in the butt to sew each individual snap peice on. Took me longer for that as it did to make a pattern, cut out and sew the actual dress and vest.

You can do it!! I have faith in you- and you can always pm if you need... I'll try to help.

One of the members befriended me when I first came and Noah had parvo and I was scared to death of losing him, I'd love to pay it forward so to speak.

That's downright sacrilegious!! How can you grow up in the area and not like the Cowboys?! I have to say that they sure have their off seasons, but when they are on, they are right on! Listen to me, I don't even watch them. I just have to endure the pain when the dh watches all season long!:D I just want her to look cute on those days!:D

A Sooner fan, in Texas? Isn't that dangerous!? Lol. I am a huge Razorback fan here. But I do cheer on the Sooners for my friend! :D We don't play them in football so I see it as ok to do! Lol.
