I didn't mean to hijack your thread!

I really want to help him overcome this fear. That's really my main objective. If eventually we decide it isn't going to happen, I'll just train him at home. He's a funny little dog. He'll be curled up in a ball at the facility but as soon as I get him home he's trying to steal toys from our lab mix. He doesn't seem to harbor his trauma outside of that place! Sadie is going to begin training this summer to be a therapy dog. I really wanted him to have that opportunity also. I'm just not sure it's going to happen - and that's ok too! I work as an assistant there also. It is such a good loving place and everything was perfect till this happened. If there's any way to get Beemer past this I want to do it. If not - we'll just live with what we've got.

That makes a lot more sense now. I think you should try the Thundershirt. Today I've come to realize that it does absolutely nothing for Max. We've tried it under a few different circumstances and it's useless. However, when I put it on Cooper he just acts like a different dog. Only a few minutes ago Max was barking wildly (while wearing the Thundershirt) at people across the street. Cooper gets scared when Max barks uncontrollably so he was hovering in the corner. I took the Thundershirt off Max and put it on Cooper and his entire attitude changed. It's all very weird.

Give it a shot.

Wow! That's amazing! It dramatically worked on one and did nothing for the other. I do think I'll try it. I really don't have anything to lose.

Glad to know it worked for Cooper. We've never had a problem with the dogs and thunderstorms until last night. Scarlett was completely freaked out by the storm that passed through last night, growling and biting at everyone (especially Rhett). My favorite feed store around here (Ruckers) sells these shirts in the store. I may go try one just to see if it helps, otherwise it could be a very l-o-n-g summer around here.

Would the Thundershirt be the same as just using any other tight-fitting shirt? With the mixed reviews, I wondered if maybe using any other shirt might work to begin with... When she freaks out in the car, even me holding her tightly can not calm her down. She'll thrash around to get away from me and I just can't snap her out of her panic

So now I'm thinking maybe it wouldn't help her.

For almost 3 years I've been trying to comfort Cooper during storms. I've tried tight shirts and it hasn't done anything. And like your baby, even me holding Cooper would do nothing. He only wanted to sit in the corner and shake. For some reason, the Thundershirt works. Can Layla see out the windows in the car? I would suggest giving it a try and putting it on her before getting in the car. You never know.

We just love the thundershirt it works miracles!!!

We have had it for over a year now and it works great for storms and worked like a dream for the 4th of july last year. Papas previously would run around the house like a chicken without its head and when he has it on, he is so calm and relaxed!!!

So much so that when we have parties at the house and friends and family know how papas is and he had his shirt on everyone commented on how relaxed he was...

They could not believe that it was the tshirt that he had on... Needless to say we just love, Love, Love this shirt!!! and highly recommend it!!!

Cooper sounds exactly like Morgan. She gets upset too when other dogs are causing a commotion. I have another yorkie with me right now and she HATES the cat. When she sees the cat she will go crazy barking and trying to catch her, and the cat will be hissing and moaning. Morgan will run away and hide during this. She also used to get upset when the puppy i was fostering used to whine and bark in her crate (she had to be crated after surgery on two broken legs). With the thundershirt on Morgan is completely fine. I love it.

I just thought of something regarding Max. Is he bigger then Cooper? Maybe the shirt doesn't fit right and is not hitting the right pressure points like it does on Cooper.

Have you explored all of the thundershirt website? there is information there on excessive barking and leash manners, as well as a forum where you can ask the experts questions. Maybe you can post there and get some further help for max.

I actually placed another order this morning for a size small. I'm thinking the XS is too small for both of them. I haven't explored the website as much as I should because I was so eager to just try it. Great idea though.

How big are Cooper and Max? I'm going to measure Beemer when I get home but it looked like he would need an XXS. I'd like to know your experience. He weighs 3.8 pounds but I need to measure his chest.

Umm... Cooper weighs 11.5 and Max weighs 13.5. They both have a chest size of approx 16". I bought the XS but feel it may be a little too snug, but it'll work. I just bought the Small to see if that would be better for them.
