Help! Clippers, what to buy?

Hey Brit and Bonny...

before you order, take your petedge catalog into Petsmart and see if they will price match. I did with mine and they matched pricing on a pair of Oster clippers that were originall +$200. plus I got other items that were price matched as well. Brit, this was at the Petsmart in Easton.

I found a pair of thinning scissors from Dollar Tree. I figured I could afford that to figure out if I would want to groom or not. lol I also got a pair of curve shears, LOVE them! The make it so much easier to trip around the face, legs and butt. I got my from JB Wholesale.

I also found some straight shears at Tuesday morning for $9.99.

If you wind up getting clippers, I have a set of combs that I was thinking about selling as they are a 2nd set that I have. Just let me know.

I asked my groomer for suggestions on clippers/shears. She is on maternity leave and knows I'm leaving for college in 6 months so she is happy to help. She is going to go through each step with me when she comes back in Feb, so she'll fix my errors and show me how to do it correctly!

That's a great idea. Thanks Bo! I would never have thought to look at Dollar Tree for something like this.

I'm just interested in the different scissors right now. I'm sure I'll get tired of grooming all of them myself and eventually get some clippers, but I really like having their hair long while I can.

This is the curved shears that I use at home. It's very inexpensive & sharp & gets the job done! PetEdge: Fromm Premier III Series Curved Shears 6 1/2"
This is the blunt nosed shears I have. PetEdge: Top Performance 4" Ball Nose Straight Shears It's great for trimming around the ear tips & the hairs between the nose.

In grooming school, our instructor said it's best to invest in thinning shears & becareful not to drop the shears which will ruin it.

Which thinning shears should I get? These come in 30 teeth, 42 teeth or 46 teeth options.

If you're going to use it for thinning out mats, you can either get the 6.5" 30 tooth or 7.5" 42 tooth. Just one or two snips over the mat should loosen it & w/some corn starch, it should come off nicely. I usually snip in two different places & work out the mat. That way, not too much hair is lost.

Perfect! Thanks, Jenny. I knew you'd know the answer to that one. My next question was going to be how to use them to save the most hair.
