Minksheen I am so disappointed. Max got some Minksheen (a sample) from Chattiesmom and Emmitt during the last GE. I was SO excited to try it out b/c I have heard WONDERFUL things about it. I gave Max a bath last weekend with it and it gave him dandruff and he is now itchy! The dandruff is pretty bad, too. :( POOR GUY. He has never had dandruff before. I followed the directions carefully (I did not dilute it though). I feel so bad for him. Has this happened to anyone else? I am not even going to try it on Molly b/c she already has dry skin. I HATE to post a negative review b/c I know so many Mommies LOVE it... but I thought I should let everyone know that it CAN cause dandruff and dry skin. :( |
Wow I have used MS many times and never had that problem, Maybe your baby has sensitive skin :( Im using Bio-groom now and really love it ;) there are so many diffrent shampoo/cond out there, I guess we have to try diffrent ones to find the right one :) Sorry you had a bad experience. |
The first time I used it I didn't dilute it either and the smell was really strong and overwhelming. I called the Company and they said to dilute it. After I diuluted it I like it much better. My babies didn't get dandruf or itch even when I used it full strength. I really like it now and it makes my girl's cottony coat look healthy and shiny. You might want to experiment a little until you find the right one or try diluting the MinkSheen the next time. |

Im sorry it didnt work for you. I dont dilute it and it has never caused dandriff or dry skin with mine |
Minksheen shampoo If you got a free trial, it didn't need to be diluted. My daughter is a groomer and she didn't like it all, the smell or what it did to her hair, we use Coathandler and we love it, My Yorkie had dandruff before we started using it and within a couple of baths it was all gone and she has never had itagain. Love it. |
My dog's old owner said that Scruffs used to have terrible dry skin in the heat and they had to give him oatmeal baths every week. I switched him to higher quality food (Innova) and used Buddy Wash Shampoo/Conditioner and Salmon Oil (good for their hair), and he doesn't have any dry skin at all and his coat is way silkier. |

I have been using BioGroom and I like it as well... but I got the MinkSheen from Cindy and really wanted to try it. I think I may try it one more time (but will dilute it). If it still causes dandruff, I think I will just have to add it to the "pile". But I am glad that it works for many! |
I`m with u i hate to knock a product. Just thought maybe it just didn`t work for molly. It seem to be ok coulpe times i use it but now her skin is dry to an she doesn`t shine as much now. An she looks like she needs to be brushed all of the time. Got the madden brush to brush her with. I have a whole gallon of this shampoo . Wish i had gotten a sample first. Just ordered her some royal coat thought i would try that. See what happens. Between food an shampoos i have spent a lot on her. I have piles of stuff to. What works on one i have found might not work on the other. |
I don't know if there is really anything to this but here is what the web site says about Minksheen. "MinkSheen Pet Shampoo's rich lather will gently clean your pet without leaving it's skin dry or irritated. Mink Oil leaves a soft, shiny, "show" quality coat, while Vitamin E soothes and prevents "hot spots". The Cedar and Citronella oils will naturally repel fleas and ticks while leaving your pet smelling great for days! The added benefit of an anti-bacterial will protect both you and your pet from the spread of harmful germs and bacteria. Used nation-wide by professional groomers that want a safe, gentle, natural shampoo.........." Like I said, I don't know if it is true that it "will naturally repel fleas and ticks" but I like the idea so I am going to keep using it for now since Daisy seems to be a tick magnet. |
I for one am not crazy about the scent. However, they claim that as long as you can smell the scent of MS that it is repelling insects. I've been using it for three weeks and am getting used to the smell, but still prefer her old "vanilla butter" dessert sweetness. It has cut down on her bath time. There is no need for conditioner and waiting for it to "do it's thing". With MS it seems like their fur needs conditioner, but after drying and brushing it is as soft and smooth as ever. That alone has kept me with MS. As far as itching, no improvement... :( |
I am not crazy about the smell either. Much prefer Espree or Biogroom for the smell. But....I ordered a gallon of the Minksheen to share with my mom. Her papillons have a sensitivity to every flea product she has tried. I don't like giving mine the Frontline Plus right now, as I have a new puppy that is a licker. So, if the Minksheen really works well to keep the fleas and ticks away, it will be worth it to put up with a little medicinal smell. Had never heard the dandruff complaint about Minksheen. I wonder if it is just the difference in shampoo and maybe it is cutting out some old shampoo buildup? You know how we are supposed to use a different shampoo every once in a while to get rid of the buildup on the hair shaft? Maybe that is what the Minksheen did? I would use it a few more times and see if you find the "dandruff" goes away. |

Does it work better for a cottony coat vs. silky coat? Roxie is silky and I'm on a search for a better shampoo for her. My SIL is a groomer down in FL. and is sending me shampoo to try. Roxie has been greasy and dull looking lately even 2 days after her baths. Could be partly my water. We're on a well and if the softener isn't working in top notch performance it effects everything! |
I love it it. I can't afford to buy it in large quantities though. Does anyone have some they'd like to sell? |

I have had a bottle of the 16oz for a while now. I use it ocassionally, I really dislike the scent.. however if you want it for the natural flea repellent quality your not going to get it without the Citronella/cedar scent. When I purchased mine they sent along a sample size of their extreme HD lotion for people with dry skin, it is above and beyond any lotion I have ever tried.. it is amazing! |
I have been using milksheen on my 3 for a while and I haven't had problem. I do know that you have to rinse them alot or they will look like dandruff. I guess they are all different what works for some doesn't work for others. |
my bay has a sliky coat and MS works great on her. I love the smell. after the hair is dry it's smell very clean. I just gave her a bath today and there are pics in my album title my baby wih her pics in it. |
Just an update: I used Minksheen on Molly and it was great (she is the one who normally uses dry skin)... I haven't used it on Max again... but it does well for her! We also used it on our black lab (a working dog) and DH likes it a lot! |
I am getting used to the scent. I didn't like it as first b/c I am used to the sweet vanilla scents, BUT it has conditioner built in so bath times is about half the time it was before, and there is the pest repellant citronella. AND on the way home from the beach there was no wet dog smell. Seems like when they get wet the scent comes back. |
I think the scent has to grow on you. I have been using it for several years now on Buddy and I actually like it now. I am sorry it didn't work for your baby. I think Debra has a point. Perhaps there was shampoo buildup on your puppy and the Minksheen was stripping it down. I would use it again and see if the second time is the charm. For the most part, everyone raves about it. I think it's a wonderful shampoo and makes Buds coat like silk with a great shine. He has a silky coat anyhow but it does add to it. I have never deluted it. I also use Pet Silk, Cranberry Fields and Harry Barker Shea butter. All are great shampoos and have never caused any problem with my Yorkie. I have read that Minksheen does seem to work better on silky coated Yorkies than cottony coated ones. |
I just got my minksheen today and can't wait to try it. Unfortunately, Bella just got back from the groomers so it'll have to wait til her next bath. I smelled it and it didn't smell bad to me but I guess I'll have to wait until i actually use it on her. |
I use it on my 3 however I always have to use a spray on leave in conditioner because the hair is tangled, even when I brush out the hair before the bath.... am I the only one this happens to? The scent does not repell long in this tx flea weather. :( |

Thanks for sharing what you use. I alternate detanglers, ice on ice is one of the ones I use with a pure paws brush, it is gentle yet helps me find the tangles... then I work them out gently with the brush. I don't have combs or anything else. |
I like Mink Sheen and use it because of the natural insect repelant. I do not dilute it either and dont seem to have any problems. If I give Bella Mia a second bath in the week I use Bio-Groom and I love it too. |

I love in Corpus love it for the insect repellent as well. I think it works great but we don't have a flea or tick problem just mosquitos. I used conditioner as well only for the flyaways. I wish they sold it in an 8oz bottle so I could get a smaller quantity...if Vickie and I lived closer I'm sure we would split a bottle. ;) 16oz is still way too big for my Yorkies. I was sent a sample bottle from a dear Yorkie friend who had a big one and it was a small 2 oz and it lasted me months...I can just imagine how long a 16 oz bottle would last. lol I don't want to order the sample from them because the shipping price is just not worth it. Anyone selling any? |
We've had nothing but great results with Mink Sheen shampoo. Could have been a bad batch... unlikely. We get ours from MinkSheen Pet Shampoo - |
