| ![]() I use the regular ones, for a couple of reasons... Reason #1 - Allows me more control, which is good for safety. I have two dogs, so with two, the more control I have the better. If I ever needed to grab them up really quick, I could do it easier with a 4-6 foot leash than I could with a retractable one. Reason #2 - I actually got hurt pretty bad with the cords of one of the retractable leashes. Chip was a puppy and running around me, twisting me up as usual, and then he decided to run from me and the cord rubbed on my legs and literally burnt and cut me all at once. I forgot to add, I was wearing shorts. Reason #3 - Retractable leashes are actually not recommended for proper leash training. Just my experiences.

| ![]() When I was at Kmart I saw the ones with the bigger handles. I would be afraid to use that with a yorkie. If it came out of your hand and hit them it looks like it could do some damage

| ![]() One more thing to be careful of - The ones I have are just a thin cord and one time I had gone to pick up my daughter at a big state park where she was with her church youth group. I thought the dogs would love a romp thru the park, so we went early & walked around. Then I went & joined my daughter's group. The dogs were on their retractable leashes & I was talking to someone, when from out of nowhere, some boys in the youth group come chasing each other right near us. They couldn't/didn't see the thin cord hooked to Bubba. One boy tripped on the cord & Bubba went flying through the air. Somehow, thank God, my little guy was unhurt. So now I'm really careful if there are very many people around. I don't want anyone to miss seeing that thin cord again!! you may want to read this thread http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ws-please.html

| ![]() My choice in "retractable" leashes would definitely be the WALKABOUT by Aspen Pet: Flexi Leash Classic Long 3 - All Belt Leash - 26ft Leads The great lesson I learned with this kind of retractable is that it is a TAPE vs. Cord Leash. I've seen too many owner's who walk their dogs on a Cord-style retractable leash that has frayed and all I can think of is just one good tug and snap...there goes their dog! The TAPE-Style just gives me a better feeling of security than I ever had with a Cord-Style. I think I got mine @ Petsmart for about the same price as the other style...maybe a little bit more but, well worth it in my opinion!
