| What's a good shampoo and conditioner? Once a week ok? What's a good shampoo and conditioner for yorkies? i am not too concerned about shiny coat, i am more concerned about whatever is best for yorkie's skin. currently i use a oatmeal shampoo on her body and a tearless shampoo on her head, i try to spray conditioner on her after done bathing her, but it's hard to get it on her skin, i get it on her hair mostly i think. is bathing her once a week ok? (i used to bath her twice a week but i cut back on that ) |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Once a week is fine for yorkies, but I recommend using a cream rinse or conditioner. Many people are happy with the oatmeal shampoo you mentioned, I have tried many different shampoos, but the ones made by Biogroom are my favorite, because the smells last the longest. I use to have to order them online, but our local Petsmart started carrying that brand, so that makes me happy too. Check out the grooming forum, there are lots of threads on people's favorite grooming products.

| shampoo is tough. Oatmeal shampoo is GREAT for their skin!!! You can even bathe every 2 weeks. That's what i do.. i worry about Layla's skin drying out so for us, once a week is too much. |

| On the Tropiclean OxyMed oatmeal shampoo & rinse it says you can use it daily if needed. Not sure how true that is as I'm sure it isn't very good on their skin but I know someone who uses it twice a week for their Yorkie.

| I have heard not to give a bath any more frequent than 2-4 weeks. Frequent bathing strips the coat of natural oils. I use Mink Sheen shampoo, and Pantene Pro V conditioner if needed. I also use Cowboy Magic detangler. I give my girls a bath every 2-4 weeks and they go the groomer for a professional job every 8 weeks. I wash faces, feet and privates more often though.

For other breeds of dogs, this is true, and in fact for some, a bath more than every 6 months is too drying, but for "most" Yorkies once a week is fine.

| We use Mink Sheen. Our furbabies go to the groomers every 4 weeks and we sometimes will give them a bath in between. Once every 2-4 weeks is good to give a bath.

| I am currently learning dog grooming, doing an apprenticeship with a hollistic style groomer and doing some of my own 'home learning'. I bathe Wookie every Sunday, that is fine for Yorkies. I am using Natural Groomers Hypo Aloegenic Tearless shampoo because it is very gentle and all natural. I also use their Vita Silk Conditioner. It is great!!! Love that product. Is a great de-tangler if used more concentrated, and diluted is great for his weekly bath. Both smell wonderful! But I am pretty sure you have to get these from a grooming supplier, not a pet store. |

| Bathing once a week is fine as long as it doesn't dry out your baby's skin too much. Each dog is an individual and has different hair/skin types, so you have to use your own good judgement and find what works for you. I use Minksheen. It is a wonderful product - shampoo and conditioner combined. When I have dry skin/hair issues I massage a few drops of emu oil into the coat and also give 2 or 3 drops of emu oil daily as a supplement. |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I use Spa Scents Revitalizing Shampoo from Healthy Pet Net. Clothes, Beds, Healthy Food, Treats, Grooming Products and Dental Care for your Furbaby! | Pooch Potato Beds, Life's Abundance Pet foods, Dental Care I really like it. This winter, since changing, I have not had ANY issues with dry itchy skin what so ever. All their skin looks so healthy along with their coats being so silky and clean longer. I won't use anything else now, plus it smells so good! Also there is no need for a seperate conditioner when you use it. Quote:
