| [News] Dog Training With A Guarantee I haven't seen any programs with guarantees around here, but even with such a guarantee, the owner does have to put in some effort to make sure the training sticks. --- If your dog goes through training, you'd expect him to respond to the basic commands. But Hilary Neal says her dog, Casey, flunked training. Casey is a 1-year-old Yorkshire terrier. Last September, Neal paid $525 to get Casey trained. "I've been having trouble house breaking her and mainly that's what I wanted,' she said. Neal said the trainer from Dog Training In Your Home promised Casey would be house broken in five weeks. "He guaranteed that he would keep coming to my house and working with her until it was done," she said. The trainer also guaranteed Casey would respond to commands like sit, stay and come. Come is the only command Casey learned -- said Neal -- and otherwise flunked her training. "Five sessions were over and they said that's it. We're done. The dog wasn't trained. I was blown away at what had just happened," she said. Mark Thompson, co-owner of Dog Training In Your Home, said the problem was that Neal didn't hold up her end of the deal by participating in the training. "I believe that Ms. Neal did work with the dog, but I think there were some inconsistencies there but our warranty is clear. If a customer has a dog that's having problems, we will give extra lessons to make that customer happy," said Thompson. After Action 9 spoke with Thompson, he offered to re-do Casey's entire five week training free of charge. Hopefully this time, she'll get it. Experts say some dogs are simply harder to train than others. But if the dog owner doesn't want to spend a lot of money for training, they can go online for instructions. But for any of it to work, the dog owner must be willing to put in the time. http://www.wsoctv.com/action9/4269574/detail.html |
