...........the rug you don't see in the picture because I'm standing on it takes up almost half the kitchen and is indoor/outdoor carpet........the rug you do see is just a cheap rug......I try to feed them on the rugs or other surface so I don't have to clean the floors contantly....I just vaccum or wipe surfaces down.....the kitties clean themselves and the doggies I just wipe w warm water and cloth but really w the wings and necks it doesn't get as messy as you might think...and they usually drink lots of water which also helps w self cleaining.....if I had a patio I would prefer to feed them outdoors but I live in an apt in a commercial area and we don't even have a yard so I'm limited that way.....but you could use a mud room, feed them in crates, outdoors, whatever works best for you.....

I wipe their faces with warm water and a washcloth when they get messy. Its really not that messy, especially once they are used to it. I just mop the floor afterwards.
