It's not the technique for brushing that makes me slow to do this. It's knowing Tucker will tear me to pieces. He turns into Cujo when we try to brush him! Do they make doggie straight jackets?lol

It's human mouthwash diluted with water until it's gentle enough for your dog.

Thats how I brush my dogs teeth and I know I need to do it more often, I will try the spray every other time. Thanks for the info.

You really have to be firm when you do this.

What you need:

1. Small spray bottle (like a traveling size hairspray bottle)

2. Mouthwash

3. Baby toothbrush (Otis likes his Buzz Lightyear toothbrush)


Fill the spray bottle with a mixture of 1/2 mouthwash and 1/2 water. You can taste it and if you think it's too strong, dilute it with more water. You will be using this mixture every time you brush your dog's teeth, so keep it alongside his toothbrush.

Spray the bristles with the mouthwash mixture.
Grab the dog's right cheek fur and pull it up and away from his gums.
Put the toothbrush way way back until it hits the back between his cheek and gumline, and brush up and down.
Switch sides and do the same.
Now for the front. You gotta be careful not to get any mouthwash mixture on his nose.
Make a "C" shape with your left index finger and left thumb.
Place the "C" over his snout/nose and raise the front part of his lips, exposing all the front teeth. Use the toothbrush to brush his front teeth. Otis hates that part, but you gotta do it.
That's how the dentist lady showed me how to do brush Otis's teeth!
