| I Did It!!!!!! For better or for worse, I took the plunge to switching Kobi to a raw diet!!! I don't know what I'm doing, but I guess I'll figure that out as I go. I was feeding him Canidae, but really feel like the raw will be so much more natural for a dog. And, yes, I have to keep reminding myself...he is a dog! And I don't have time to homecook, and actually I personally think raw is better because they get everything in that the need...but anyway. Couple questions for those who feed raw. (BTW, I am feeding nature's variety).... First question, do you take out the next day's amount the previous night or what? How do you keep just enough thawed but not too much? Also, do you feed twice or three times a day? The guy at the wholistic food place said I could do it once if I wanted, but I'd actually rather do three...but he said two would be good ...so ??? Also, I got two kinds (rabbit and venison) so should I feed one one day and one the next or every other meal or what?? Last question...how big is your baby and how much do you feed per day? Thanks for all your help!!! I really hope this improves Kobi's diet because it's not EXACTLY cheap, but he's worth every penny

| I feed raw (although not premade) and I feed them twice a day, feeding more than once keeps their blood sugar stable and helps to prevent hypoglycemia. I'm not sure about your defrosting questions as I don't know how long your premade will take to defrost but i'm sure someone else will. As long as you vary the type that you are using it does not matter wether you feed both types in one day or different types alternate days. As for how much to feed them, I simply observe their weight and condition and alter how much I feed them (more or less) using them as a guide. Much like you would for yourself or your family. If he looses weight then up it and if he puts weight on then lower it, if he stays just right then you are feeding him the right amount. Different dogs have different metabolism rates so two dogs that are the same weight could need totally different amounts of food. Well done for being brave enough to give it a go. You never know, once you are confident feeding the premade then perhaps you will be brave enough to go ahead and start doing it yourself. Good luck |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Cool! I'm excited to see how this goes, so keep us updated! I homecook, but may someday take the leap. It actually seems much easier than homecooking... And, yup, I OBSESS about my dogs' nutrition - while I eat cereal for dinner.

| I take out enough for a couple of feedings at a time, and I feed them twice a day. It won't hurt it to be thawed for a day or so. No different than a piece of meat in the fridge for you to eat. Good luck....

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i feed nature's variety and Primal. I take out a days worth at a time. On the Nature's Variety site there is a form you can fill in to find out how much you should be feeding but you can also go by how big or little your guys is getting. Morgan is 4lbs so she gets 2-3oz of food a day (2-3 medallions). When i get a new bag of food i separate meals in sandwich baggies. So every night i take out a new baggie from the freezer and put it in the fridge so its ready for tomorrow. Sometimes i forget to take it out so i'll take the frozen medallions out of the freezer and put them on the counter for 20minutes then feed. Morgan has a iron stomach so i feed her a few different varieties (lamb, beef, venision, and actual chicken drumsticks/breasts). i heard you shouldn't feed all types of proteins just incase something happens in teh future (like allergies) and you need a new protein to switch to (so save the exotic proteins for later in life if needed). i feed two times a day. somtimes i'll give a medallion in the morning and one at night. sometimes i'll give cottage cheese or yogurt in teh morning and two medallions at night. it depends on how i feel and what we have in store for the day. i usually stick with one protein per day because that's what the baggies are divided up into but you can give different proteins at different feeding times if you want.
