Hi, I gave my 10 year old yorkie, Rocky, a bath yesterday. I started seeing tufts of hair lying around and have found that I can just pull tufts of hair off of his body. I clipped him short for the summer. This is more than just a little shedding - this is tufts of hair. Is this normal or is this a sign of something wrong? I've never seen this before. Any information would be appreciated. He usually has a much longer coat and when I comb him never see anything like this. I posted this on the grooming board and thyroid was mentioned. Could this be? If so, what would other signs be. His blood was tested in March when he had eye problems and his thyroid was ok then. Thanks. Erika

Thanks, will call tomorrow. It's weird. It's only the black hair. Doesn't seem to be bothering him. I'm wondering if perhaps it could be the shampoo. This wasn't happening before I bathed him.

The other symptoms are excessive thirst and urination and a pot belly. I hope it is just a little shedding and nothing serious. Maya lost 1/2 of her coat so far.

| It doesn't sound normal. I'd take him to the vet.

Thank you. His thyroid was checked in April and it was normal. This is only black tufts coming out towards the undercoat at the rear of his body. No bald spots or hair loss anywhere else. It appears almost to be an undercoat. His hair is not thinning. Erika

Hi, I spoke with my vet this morning. His bloodwork in April was all normal - no sign of thyroid or cushings. Was told to give him a good brushing and watch him for a couple of days. His skin is not red or out of the ordinary. He's not scratching or itching. He's not shedding anywhere else and he has no bald spots or thinning hair - really weird - my son brought a kitten over saturday night and he went beserk. I wonder between the bath and the kitten he is stressed. Will keep an eye out on him for a couple days.

He seems ok. I gave him a good brushing yesterday. Will do again today. Between a poodle on her way to congestive heart failure and a "molting" yorkie who also pants and gags I am at my wits end. I feel like I make a call to the vet daily. It's hard to see them get old - I think I am under more stress than they are!
