| body & hair both too thin? My baby is about 5 months and I feel that he is very thin. He has had some poop problems so i know his body is having a hard time these days, but is there anything I can put in his food that will assure me his body is taking in all the nutrients like it is supposed to? Also, his hair on his body seems VERY thin, it looks like he is balding in spots, the hair on his face seems normal....any suggestions? |

| Jamie, Get some nutrical and give it to him each day until he is about 6 months old. It comes in a tube and is a dietary supplement that is great for yorkies, and other toy dogs. The thinning hair may just be his coat type. A true silky coat is usually thin and straggley while they are young pups, but turn into beautiful silk coats when they are older |

| Also, I think nutri-stat and probably nutri-cal actually contain omega 3 fatty acids which is really good for their coat. |

| Worms? When was the last time you wormed your little guy? Dogs infested w/ worms tend to have poor coats and appear very thin. If it has been a while it should not hurt to do it. If you are unsure- consult w/ your vet. I always keep a bottle of Strongid on hand. I worm my dogs every six months or when needed. Hopefully this is all he needs, if so you are lucky because it is a very cheap and easy to fix type of problem. Good luck!!!

| Thanks! Thanks for the advice. Where do I get Nutrical? Do I just follow the directions as far as how much to give him or does it depend on weight? |

You can get nutrical or nutristat at the pet stores like PetSmart, or Petco, or you can order it online. I always keep some on hand for my dogs. | |

| The vet said that as far as the poop problems, he thinks its my puppy's anal stricture. This means pretty much that his but is too tight and that it doesnt get the poop out as fast as other dogs. He could have surgery but then again a side effect might be that he loses all control to go to the bathroom. I'm not sure what to do really. I have been giving him pumpkin and that has helped make the stool softer. It doesnt seem like he is in pain but I just feel that from his skinny body and thin hair that he has a nutrition problem. I feed him 3 times a day about a little less than 1/4 of cup of Eukenuba. The vet said the food is good for him and that changing food is not going to solve the problem. Hopefully a little nutri-cal will work. |

| I am not a professional but I do disagree with your vet and the statement that chnging food won't help. Eukanuba is not a great food. I had Chewy on Royal Canin and he had awful itching and dandruff, his hair was not fluffy and he was constipated. They can be allergic to corn ingredients in RC. As soon as I changed him to Natural Balance, everything turned around and he's fattened up a bit, although he is still soooooo tiny! I would think twice before putting your pup through ANY surgery. Actually if I were you I would go check out another vet and get a second opinion. Good Luck! |
