Vomited 30 minutes after administering heartworm pill Hootie vomited about 30 minutes after I gave her her heartworm pill last night. SHe chewed up the pill really well and then went and ate a ton of food and about 30 minutes later, she vomited. Should I give her another pill? Or do you think it was in there long enough before she vomited? Also, this pill is one that kills tapeworms as well as heartworms. I wonder if the pill is what made her vomit? Maybe her itty bitty tummy cannot handle it.

It may have been just too much in her little tummy at the time which made her get sick. Try feeding her first then about 1hr later break up the chew in several smaller pieces and give it to her that way. I do that with Buddy. I feel it settles better in their stomach.

Wow, never had that happen, so far. Think I'd call the vet before I gave her a second one though. I don't know if a " possible double dose" would hurt, but the vet would . Would sure have me upset too. Let us know what you do.

Thanks! I called the vet and she said I can bring that medication in and exchange it for Interceptor, which I know agrees with Hootie. She said give her an Interceptor pill tomorrow. She should be fine. The vet said it is really hard for a dog to overdose on heartworm medication.
