| help with new puppies eating i brought my puppy home yesterday and as soon as he got home he ran straight to the food and ate a decent amount but since then he hasn't eaten anything.. mayb one or two here or there.. i am worried.. he also sleeps alot but when he is awake he has an INSANE amount of energy so i think he just tires himself out.. the breeder told me to not give him treats.. is it safe to try other kinds of food? should i be concerned? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Puppies sleep a LOT, it can seem like too much - but they need it. They can be going 8 zillion mph - then, boom!, time for deep sleep. So funny. He could be stressed w/ all the change - he's not wobbly or anything that would indicate low blood sugar is he? Why don't you try sprinkling some water on his kibble to make it more appealing? You could also sprinkle a bit of parmesan cheese (grated, in the can). What are you feeding him exactly? I wouldn't suggest making any big changes just yet, since he just changed homes, but you could add little things to his kibble to make sure he's eating 4x per day. What's his weight and age?

| hes not wobbly at all.. he seems all together.. a few sneezes now and then.. ive been giving him nutrical and putting syrup in his water like the breeder suggested.. i am feeding him royal canine now (what they fed him) mixed with a teaspoon of canned food and a little water to moisten it.. i tried adding scrambled eggs to it but that did not work either.. the breeder also told me to feed him a small jar of baby food a day too but he is not interested in that either.. the only thing he happily eats is the nutrical.. right now he is 11 1/2 weeks old and they told me he weighs 2 pounds.. but i dunno how much i believe that because he is TINY.. i have a vet appointment in 2 days to find out his exact weight.. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Sounds like he has a little sweet tooth! You could try some fat free vanilla yogurt - that would would be good for him. Low sugar applesauce, Kashi cereal. You could also boil some chicken breast and add that to the kibble. He might just be adjusting....hang in there!

| I would also give him Nutrical while he isn't eating. Lucy was so overwhelmed by her new environment (so excited) I had trouble getting her to focus enough to eat and my breeder said to give her Nutrical. I still give it to her if I notice she isn't eating alot. She just gets so excited when we're home she will forget to eat. Maybe hand feed a bit? Oops. Senior moment. I see you are already doing Nutrical. My bad!
