| Been reading the posts...maybe its different for a female. I checked, I can feel Lillybelle's ribs perfectly. Her vet said, its sort of like menopause for a women-the reason for the weight gain for her. She has two tablespoons of cooked food in the am, and two tablespoons of cooked food (fat free turkey/vegetables)in the pm, I leave out Natural Choice Wt Mgmt during the day-she eats very little of it. We are very, very active. She's not big by any stretch-feels solid, just not 4lbs like she was, she's 5.5lbs now. |

| That's what it is like with Mojo.........he isn't big by any means, but he has gained so much. He is still a little guy, just rounder, thicker, heavier, stockier. My vet mentioned weight gain with neutering and said it just depends on the dogs. (er, probably the humans). The neutering is the only thing that I can blame it on because that is the only difference, besides his food. We feed the same amount of food, just the different brand (from Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice to Canidea). His weight was fine and normal and the same up until a few months after his neuter when we started noticing the change. So, it has to be that....plus, I know lack of good exercise...although we do walk, just not far or often. I think I will try to no treats...but will continue to do them if we do photos or training. Okay, maybe I will just stop them for awhile....and amp up our walking.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I certainly understand.....this same thing happened with Magi at her last visit (for her shots).....but not quite a full pound. Mojo sounds exactly like Magic.....and our vet's suggestion was no treats at all and make sure she is eating on the low end of the recommended amount of food daily. Of course the exercise will help also.....but it has rained so much here for the last 2 months that we are just now getting back to some walks. It has been about a month and we are seeing slow progress with Magic. You sound like you have a good plan with more exercise......good luck! And tell Mojo that Magic sends him puppy hugs and kisses!!

| HI and thanks Kristin! I am sorry that little miss Magic is going thru this too! We need to keep each other updated on our progress with our little ones. It has rained and rained here, but the last three days, only PM thunderstorms from the hot AM. Our days have been sooo hot and humid, which brings in more rains when it gets cooler at night. If Mojo was not afraid of the treadmill that would help alot, but it is noisy. My DH suggested walking with him on our dirt road (which is a dead end), so we may I think we will do that.

the canidae site does say that for the light/senior formula you can feed 1/4 cup per day. maybe try cutting his food down to 1/4 cup and not eliminating the treats? just a suggestion, if mojo likes his treats and you won't feel bad about not giving him any goodies throughout the day.
