| Umbilical hernia...anyone have any problems? Hello! This is my first post here, although I have been reading the posts for awhile . I am getting my first Yorkie in a few weeks after doing much research. The puppy I fell in love with has an umbilical hernia which the breeder said was not a huge deal. Since my new baby is sold on a spay/neuter contract and won't have puppies, she said it is not a problem. She is giving me a bit of deal on her, but I was wondering if anyone has had any problems from this particular hernia. Any advice would be appreciated!

| Never had that issue with a yorkie, but my son's lab mix had a small hernia from a not-so-good spay job. She grew out of it. I guess it really depends on the size. If you're planning on having the baby spayed/neutered, they could probably fix it, if necessary, at the same time. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | the umbilical hernia is common in young pups. This can be fixed by your vet during the spay. However, before you actually purchase the puppy i would get an estimate on the spay/hernia repair and show it to your breeder and ask if you can adjust the price so that the hernia repair will be covered.

Thanks, the breeder agreed to take $100 off the purchase price for my time and money in getting the hernia fixed. I asked my vet about how much it would be to repair it if I got it done while she was getting spayed. She estimated about $50 if everything went according to plan. Sounds like I am getting a good deal! Thanks to all for reassuring me that my baby will be fine. I really fell in love with her and would get her regardless, just wanted to make sure I wasn't in for too much trouble!

| My baby had an umbilical hernia and she hasn't had any problems. Two vets have assured me that she is perfectly healthy and that I do not have to treat her any different. I would definitely get the one that you want, you'll be happy you did. Good luck with the little one!
