| Please help with ANY advice or suggestions! i have learned so much on this forum so hopefully someone can help me!! i read posts that canidae is one of the best foods to use-- so of course, last night i rushed out to buy it for mimi! she is ten weeks and i had been feeding her iams puppy kibble (as her breeder recommended). i realized how bad it was and chose to just switch her to the canidae immediately last night for dinner. BAD NEWS: mimi will not eat her new canidae food! i don't know what to do!! it's now breakfast and for the 2nd time -- she is refusing to eat her food she is pushing it away, running from it and last night she even was nipping at me!! i dont want to give her the iams because i know its bad for her BUT i know she is hungry. i also am not sure if i should give her something else since i would think she needs to be able to associate her new kibble as good food. all i want to do is give her the best!! (of course she doesn't understand!) she needs to learn to eat this food--but HOW?!?!? i truly appreciate any suggestions or advice on how to solve the problem! it's breaking my heart to watch her not eat thanks in advance!!

| Does she know the word "treat" or whatever you may use? If she does (which at 10 weeks might be pushing it) then you should make her do something to get her "treat" and give her a piece of kibble. I think MOST yorkies eat better when there is a challenge. And personally, if Kobi won't eat something (like his monthly heartworm he hates) I'll make him do a trick or go fetch and then say "treat" and he eats it right up...haha. Other than that, I really don't have suggestions other than maybe mixing it with a little yogurt (plain and preferably organic) or put some fresh veggies in with it or chicken...I don't know because I don't homecook and Kobi loves his Canidae. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but if you try making it a challenge for him, he might like it then! (Yorkies can be very silly sometimes....lol)

| My Toto is a picky eater too. I hate when my vet says "when they are hungry, they will eat", but sadly, I found that it's true! I feed her Innova, small bites ... she has loved it ever since she first tried it. There are two threads discussing The Honest Kitchen, and there might be suggestions you might find helpful! Good luck! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82095 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83474

| I was having a hard time getting Diesel to eat before I started to feed him Innova. He has always liked Innova but about 2 weeks or so ago he really didn't want to eat it anymore. So I bought a small bag of Chicken Soup and guess what he HATES it. I mixed it with his Innova and he picked the Innova out. I was really shocked! So I broke down and bought another bag of Innova and I also bought a can of California Natural Chicken and brown rice. I mixed the soft with a little of the hard and he ate it all up!!! It is really just a matter of preference with them. Trial and error really. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this new combo will help him start to eat better.

| I understand I had a similar problem with Emmy and Oscar. Several people here advised me to mix the two foods together and try it. I did 1/2 and 1/2 the first time and it DID NOT WORK! Neither wanted it. So I started out slower--mixed 3/4 what they would eat with 1/4 of the other (just did a little bit at a time). I then hand fed it to them...(no comments please...it was the only way they would eat it). After a few times, I started increasing the new type of food and lessening the old type. Finally I put bowls back on the floor and VIOLA they decided to eat, finally! They are now scarfing it down every time!

| THANKS SO MUCH for your replies so far! time was running out--i got desperate so i put a little baby food over the canidae and she ate it (after she licked all the baby food off). i don't know--i'm just kinda in shock about this because the canidae has gotten such rave reviews! plus, she really was a "good-eater" (not sure if thats even a real word?!) actually i know its my fault because i did not ease her into the new food. i suppose that would have been the best way--but when i heard how bad iams was i just tried to skip it! at this point i am going to try every "reasonable" suggestion possible! god i hope she somehow changes her mind! i don't mind buying more food- i just want her to have a good one! so i guess i should go try to buy "innova" or "natures's choice"? any other suggestions?? late for work now! hah!
