| Am I feeding my babies enough and the right things? I posted awhile ago, but have more questions. My 3 babies (yorkie, yorkie mix and maltese)are very picky eaters. I was feeding them a package of Cesear wet food (one each) daily and always kept out dry food (mini kibbles and bits). Half of the time by the end of the day, the Cesear would still be sitting there. I started reading this board and found out about other brands, like Merricks, and tried some of them. They hated them also. After the trouble with the tainted dog food, I began about a month ago to make them human food, which they eat very well. I am worried though that they are not getting the right nutrients or not enough, or too much.I mix lean ground beef, or ground chicken with rice or oatmeal and add a teaspoon of missing link supplement, then I mix in some Savory Sauce by Iams for moisture, sometimes I add a little cheese. I give them about 3/4 cup each, usually divided into two meals. They usually eat every bite. I also still leave out the Kibbles and bits though they never touch it anymore...they used to munch on it at night. My family thinks I am crazy, but I am spending less money and they are eating more. My husband thinks it must be bad for them because their stool seems softer. What do you think...is what I am feeding a healthy diet and are they getting enough? Do they have to have dry food too and what is a good dry food that your Yorkie likes? Thanks for all your help. Laura |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Hi Laura - I wouldnt feed any small breed dog Ceasers...though I know people do. There's some nice quality foods you can introduce and you can read more about what people are feeding their yorkies in the HEALTH section - just be careful of the recalls |

| The best advice that I can give as far as homecooking for dogs is to get a good book that can help tell you what supplements you need to add. I like Dr. Pitcairn's book but some find it to be overwhelming...Go to Barnes & Noble or amazon.com and look for a homecooking book. You want to make sure that your babies are getting a balanced diet long-term with the calcium that they need. Many times recipes call for bone meal, calcium carbonate, or powdered baked eggshells to be added. You may want to follow some recipes in some of those books. Good luck!!
