| I bought a set of stainless steel bowls that sit in a tray and Frosty was terrified of them because they rattled when she tried to eat. I took some foam rubber with a sticky back and made a rim around the edge of the tray so now they are quiet and the dogs love it. I have heard the ceramic is the best but with small grandchildren running around and ceramic tile floors I do not want to risk it. As for the water line, SOS or Brillo pads work great for that and if you use distilled water I don't think you will have that problem.

| I always used stainless steel . My little ones never paid attention to their reflections on the bowls , they are more interested in what's in it . |

| When I had cats, one of them developed swelling in his lips. I took him to the vet who freaked out when I told him we were using ceramic bowls. He said that a lot of animals are allergic and they chip/crack in the dishwasher and then bacteria grows in the cracks. I switched to stainless steal and my cat's lip got better, but Paddington eats out of sushi dishes (ceramic!) and I've had no problems with allergies. I inspect them every morning for cracks and chips, though, and wash them only by hand. -O

| I use stainless steel bowls. Lacy is on a raw diet and I wash them after every meal and they are easier to wash than ceramic. I also use stainless steel for my cats because they eat canned and raw and I was them after every meal too. I do think the ceramic ones are prettier but the only dish I leave out is a water bowl and it's stainless steel too.

| I use stainless for Jake, and it's so easy to keep clean. It seems like the water stays cold a little longer, and he loves his water cold. |
