Stainless Steel vs. Ceramic? What do you like better and why - Stainless steel or ceramic food bowls? I definitely know plastic isn't good. So far this is what I've come up with: Stainless Steel PROS: Hard to tip over if it has the rubber thingie on the bottom Sanitary Easy to clean CONS: Not sure if it's microwaveable? Ceramic PROS: If it's the heavy type, hard to tip over less scary (I've read threads where the dogs are scared of stainless steel) prettier CONS: Not as sanitary as stainless steel Thoughts? I'm trying to decide what to buy. |
Stainless for sure - many dogs are allergic to the ceramic |
I have a set of both stainless steel and ceramic and find myself using the stainless steel set the most just because it's easier for me. The ceramic ones are heavy and if I'm in a rush and my hands are wet they just give me grief. I recommend buying the stainless steel set:) |
Stainless Don't know if this is true, but I read somewhere about the ceramic bowls--if they were made out of u.s.a. they could contain lead in the paint--don't know if true or not. I saw some cute plastic bowls with nonskid ring at Target the other day. What was wrong with plastic? |
Ellie has ceramic dishes. She used to use plastic and then a stainless steel water dish with the rubber ring on the bottom. That was a headache. That water dish also got a "water line" where I always filled it to and it was a different texture then the rest of the bowl and that bothered me because I don't know why it would do that. I am all for ceramic but then again I had no idea that dogs could be allergic to it. |
I use ceramic. Lil pink ones theat look like crown and say princes....Diggy just loves them...lol He looks funy drinking out of Bella's pink bowl! |
Stainless for my furbabies. I have to use a plastic bowl for my cats food though.............he will not eat out of the stainless (dont know why) and he is always pushing the bowl on to the floor so ceramic has been broken. (I have to keep his food on top of my dryer in the laundry room or the doggies will eat it!  ) |
Ceramic here too. I like them better than stainless steel. Less sterile looking and I personally like the feel of the ceramic over the stainless. I have read that you can do either one, just not plastic. |
I actually got lulu some cute stainless steel bowls with decorations on the outside instead of the usual silver. I opted for that because in the past we have broken a number of ceramic bowls and with three children running around it would get broken often. So I am not sure what the activity level is in your house but you can definitely find some pretty stainless steel ones. |
I use stainless steel with the rubber on the bottom. I have a plastic bowl with two sections for water and food that I use for when Im traveling or when I leave him with someone else. I like it because it is easier and lightweight. He mostly uses the stainless steel ones. I wanted ceramic, but just didnt find any that I liked...because you know it has to coordinate with my home decor!:p |

I switched from the SS to ceramic. I truly like the ceramic much better. |
All three of my dogs use ceramic. |
We use stainless steel |
We have both stainless steel and ceramic bowls. I prefer the stainless as they are easier to not worry about. They clean up well and I don't have to be so careful as to not chip or break them. I just believe they are better for our dogs. |
