| Homecookers PLEASE- eating too much??? So last night my dad was saying good night to Layla and said she was a bit chubby!!! well being a girl i sure did take that personally.... but i'm worried Layla is eating too much.. she is somewhere between 5 and 5.5 lbs which her vet said is a good weight for her, but she hasn't been weighed in about a month so i'm not sure how much she weighs now but i'm worried she is eating too much. Every day she has about 1 tsp-tbs of yogurt with a bit of fruit. Around lunch she has about 1/4 c of her food (Currnetly beef, oatmeal and carrotts) mid afternoon she has about 1 tsp -tbs of cottage cheese (Although lately she hasn't been crazy about that) and then around 5 and again at 7 or 8 (depending on how much exercise she has had) she eats another 1/4 c of food... can those of you that homefeed let me know how much your dog weighs and how much you feed them during the day. I'm using Dr. Pitcairn's book and he uses the term "Toy" for dogs 15 lbs and under and recommends 1-2 c. of food per day.. but Layla is definitly not 15 lbs or close.. anyways.. just hoping for some opinions and to hear what others are feeding! thanks so much!! |

| Marci - I'm not an expert, but it sounds like you're doing everything just fine. Unless she has gained a lot of weight, try not to worry too much and just make sure treats are at a minimum.

| I think you're doing great!! If she's five pounds, she should have around 205 kcal per day, but that's just an estimate, depending on activity level, it could be more or less

| Each recipe will tell you how many kcal are in each cup of the food...Or it will tell you how much is in the entire recipe, and then you can calculate it
