Skin Problems Hi my two Yorkies have a servere skin problem, I have paid out hundered of £'s on skin biopsys and scrapings but my vet cannot find any reason for the problem. They both have raised pinky white spots which burst and get infected. This makes the dogs smell terrible. The vet usually gives them antibiotics but this never cures it. Can any one help?:confused: |
What are you feeding? I'm guessing sebbhorea has been ruled out? What does it smell like? Is the skin flaky? Have you tried switching detergent, shampoos etc.? Have cortisone type meds been discussed? |
Have they checked blood for thyroid problems? |
Skin Problem I have been prescribed Seboomild P shampoo (Keratolytic) and Malaseb shampoo (antibacterial & antifungal) plus numerus amounts of different antiboctics. They have been tested for thyroid the vet done full blood work tests. As to their food they are on either Bakers complete or Pal dried food. Plus the odd bits of meat we may give them when we eat. |

Are they related or from the same litter??? If they aren't then that would mean its environmental... I'm stumped (no kidding:rolleyes: ) anyone have ideas for these poor little ones? |
How about Yeast Infections caused by the bacteria Candida? Yes they are related. same parents but one litter apart. Other sibblings have dry skin problems but none have spots and infections like my two. Thank you for your suggestions will research into yeast infections and let you know outcome. Thanks to you all for your input. |
The skin infection might be the result of an overgrowth of BAD bacteria: Candida Yes, do some research and start to give them some Probiotics. I bought my in the Vitamin store (in the fridge section). I keep mine in the freezer for freshness and to last longer. The brand I bought is Udo's Choice - Super 8 Probiotics They are capsules and I sprinkle a good amount daily onto a spoon of Danon Activa Yogurt. I hope you are able to help them heal, those pics look like they are very uncomfortable. P.S. Since you say your Vet has tried everything, maybe you might want to consider a Holistic Vet, maybe they could help??? just an idea :) P.S.S. I am also feeding Organic Virgin Unrefined Coconut Oil to Roxy and TJ. It is suppose to have wonderful ALL around health benefits. Google: Coconut Oil for Dogs see what you come up with ;) |
I have been searching the net for information of Yeast infections as you suggested and I now believe this could be the problem my girls have. One of the many symptoms mentioned is them constantly licking their paws and the skin on the paws getting "thick" and black. Both my girls are doing this. My problem is now how to treat it, I dont want to take advice from a website that sells products to treat Yeast infections because their main aim would be to sell their products. Is anyone able to recommend from experience any good products. Could you bear in mind that in England we are more restricted to what we can buy in stores. I am not really too sure how to offically treat a yeast infection. Maybe you could mention it to your Vet and see what they say. Probiotics (are good bacteria) Yeast (bad bacteria) There needs to be an equal balance. So I would first start by going to the Health Food store (human) and get some Probiotics and start to sprinkle some daily to their food. |
:) Feeling a little happier, I have changed my vet to someone who specialises in Skin problems and spent over an hour with him yesterday. We are going to try thyroid tablets, zinc tablets and antibiotics. (Even though the blood test came back negative for thyroid, apparently it often does in dogs). Its now a case of fingers crossed and wait to see if this treatment works. The vet I have now signed up with instilled a lot more confidence and he truly believes he can get my little girls better. Lets hope so. Thank you all for your messages. I will let you know how things go.:thumbs up |
