I bought a small amount from my local Raw food distributor. But then I bought a big gallon from Tropical Traditions. www.tropicaltraditions.com |
do u ever put on skin for soothing ? |
No I haven't done that, I feed it daily. If you do a google search for "coconut oil for dogs' you'll find lots of info to read about it and how to use it ;) |
More bother now! The girls skin seems to be clearing a little, but as the new vet says its early days for the thyroid to kick in yet. BUT, now 1 or both of them are having accidents on the kitchen floor. I cant believe at 7 and 8 years old they would suddenly start doing this. The other day the door was wide open and one of them just sat there and pee'd. Could it be the thyroid tablets? I cant figure out which one is doing it to chastise her, might have to keep a watch until i do!! |
My girl (Roxy) will do that too. She is almost 3 and every now and then she gets into a mode and she'll pee here and there all over the house. I don't know what the deal is? I had mine checked for UTI - just in case ;) |
Skin problem Two years on on I am still no further forward with getting a solution for this terrible problem. The new vet has tried all sorts including tyroid treatment and steriods. My poor girls skin is still very sore and smelly all I can do is bathe them lots which seems to ease it a little. |

I see that you've done tests -- but has anything been grown out in culture media? I mean, I think the areas really need to be cultured and grown out, so the "bug" can be identified. Of "bugs" (generic term), it could be Staph, Candida, Ring Worm, etcetera. Pyoderma? Mange? Without an actual diagnosis, I'm at a loss of ideas for you. :( It is really awful that not even steroids work. |
A few years ago, Simon, my yorkie, kept getting staph infection. He would clear up while on antibiotics but would break out again. Finally, the vet recommended a medicated shampoo that I've used ever since & swear by it!! It's called, Vets Universal Medicated Shampoo. You might give it a try. Here is a link where you can buy it. It's much cheaper than buying it from the vet. Good Luck!! Absolutelypets.com- Free Shipping for orders $100 |
This is the Shampoo that I have been bathing Roxy in for the past year. I do NOT use conditioner, and I rinse her very, very well. ChlorhexiDerm Max. Shampoo 2% 12oz Chlorhexiderm is an antiseptic, antimicrobial shampoo combining surface-active penetrating agents and emollients for optimal therapeutic effectiveness. For conditions where an antiseptic, antimicrobial, cleansing and deodorizing formulation may be of benefit. 12 oz. Contains 2% chlorhexidene. I also give her 1/4 teaspoon of oral aloe vera gel (human kind from the vitamin shoppe). Aloe Vera is awesome, and it helps from the inside out. |
Skin Problem Thanks for your replies, I have just ordered some Vet Solutions Medicated Shampoo and some Skin-eze tablets. Lets see whether these help. I will let you all know once they arrive.:) |
Trying a different Shampoo Quote:
I am also trying them on Skin eze tablets, maybe it's them? Does anyone know? |
Is this worth trying? My girls are still suffering and the vet is at a loss what to do. A friend has now suggested I try antihistamine (childrens strength) to help them with the itching and scratching. Has anyone used this? Would it be safe to buy and try it? Thanks |

Sore Skin I cant believe it's two years since I put my original post on here regarding Pepsi and Zola's skin problems. Zola, seems to be under control by just bathing on a regular basis but Pepsi is in a terrible state. I bath her twice a week and she is constantly scratching and she smells absolutely terrible, even after about an hour or so after a bath. I took her back to the vet last week and they just changed her shampoo AGAIN. I am at my wits end, the poor thing is so smelly no-one wants her near them and my house smells all the time. I really just dont know where to turn to for help. My insurance wont pay for any more treatment relating to Pepsi's skin and I have run out of funds. PLUS she now has the added problem of her trachea is collapsing so she sounds like a demented Sea Lion. I just wish someone could help her. |
