| Nursing Mommy Relief PLEASE HELP! Hello Everyone: I am new to YorkieTalk. I am a certified YOYO, Yorkie-Owned, Yorkie-Obsessed! My mommy girl, Mizzie, has 5 babies, 5 healthy, beautiful baby mini yorkies. They are almost 5 weeks old, Mommy nurses them occasionally, but spends a lot of time sitting on high just watching them. Her tummy still has milk, it is tore up from baby teeth and claws and just general parental abuse. They are eating food very, very well. Is there a way to give her relief for her sore tummy? Today, I ran an ice cube up and down over it, but she only liked that for about 1/2 an ice cube melt! Thank ya'll, very much in advance for any advice you may have! Sherry |

| I always make sure the puppies nails are trimmed. If they are not nursing, maybe a nice bath and then some neosporin will help. Be sure to wash the neosporin off before letting her nurse again.

| Thank you, Thank you! They are still nursing and I have been deathly afraid to cut their nails. I had their dew claws removed, but I what if I hurt them? I will try to bring myself to cut their nails today. Wish me courage! I love yorkie talk and Gizzie my boy, and Mizzie, my girl are my proud owners! Thanks, Sherry |

| Mine will be 5 weeks on Tuesday, and basically their Mamma has weaned them. She doesn't want to be with them except for a few minutes at a time. I'm sure it's because they are getting teeth. But they seem to be doing fine on baby cereal and goats milk. So I will just put her in with them twice a day for a while. |

| Trimming nails. I have my husband hold them, and use my own nail clippers, and just cut the tips, your nail clipper will catch under their nail where it curves, and you clip where the curve catches the clipper. Better to have a person holding the puppy so you can focus on clipping the nails, it is quite easy, you just clip off the white growth, it is better to clip to little than to much and make them bleed. Good Luck!!! It's really not that hard. Just be careful not to go past the curve, your clipper will catch the nail right at the curve and you just clip. Wish i were their to help you! |

| Thank you for asking! Gizzie, the Dad, is @ 8.5 pounds. He is small but very muscular. We have 2 and a half acres and his daddy is an avid yard nut. So Gizzie gets TONS of exercise keeping his daddy safe in the yard. Mizzie, the Mommy, pregnant for 5 babies weighed a whopping 10.5 pounds. She is normally about 7! How big is/are yours? |

| I DID IT! Well, almost... Quote:
I tried to take your advice and have my husband hold them, but he had to leave the room. When they squirmed and looked at him, he felt so bad to be "hurting them" that he wouldn't even stay in the house! Grandpas are such wimps! I only had blood on 2 nails, one on the biggest boy, and that's why I quit on him with one nail left, and I caught the 8th nail on the littlest boy and I quit without doing his back feet. BAD GRANDMA! But, I had the septic stick (the coagulant) so not much blood! I HATED IT, but Mommy is much happier. So, if Grandma suffered a little, I can take it for her!

I think you did well for your first try. If my husband is not home I sit on the bed and hold them between my knee and clip their nails, if they wiggle out they fall on the bed not the floor. So hang in there, it is worth it to them and the mommy, as they can not walk without getting their nails caught in the bedding, and that is no fun for them. Also Mom will not mind spending more time with them, and will quit hiding her boobies. Also it is a good idea to trim them right after you bathe one as their nails are nice and soft. Keep up the good work, take a deep breath and pat yourself on the back, that you were able to do it without the help of your husband. Dad needs to get over not wanting to see, as it does hurt them when you do not have help to hold them still, and comfort them with soft soothing coos and baby talk, and kisses on the top of their heads, they will forget all about getting nails trimmed and eat up all the affection. The tighter you try to hold them the more afraid they are, so hubby just has to make sure they can not jump, and the only one that needs to hold tight is you when you take their paw to trim it. Have your husband give them a tiny liverwurst on his finger, they love it and that will keep them occupied while you clip. Or give it to them as a treat after you have done their nails, and tell them what good babies they are.
