I give my lab one tablet (25mg), but she weighs 80 pounds. I haven't noticed yet if my puppy has any allergies but would be interested to know.

ok your best bet is LIQUID CHILDREN"S BENADRYL... you are supposed to give 1mg per lb and 5 mg= 1 tsp. Layla is 5.5 lbs, so i'd give her a little over a tsp. and you give it 3X daily if you can't get Benadryl and you have another brand... write back and i have the amounts for those too

benadryl is relaly good for pups with allergies or if they get a bug bite... it isn't a daily thing.. somethting to hold them over utnil she can get to a vet.. i don't think there is a risk of overmedicating if you are careful

My vet told me to give 1mg per pound too. Childrens Benadryl is 12.5mg per 5ml. 5ML=1tsp. A ml is the same as a cc. If your pup weighs 3.4lbs she should get 3.4mg which equals to 1.36ml or 1.36cc or you could round it off to 1.4ml using a syringe.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I find Cali gets a little relief from Benydryl. The meds the vet has given her haven't worked at all. I had allergy testing and tried everything. I am going to take her to a specialist as soon as I have Maya straightened out this week. Nothing is working for Cali'a scratching.

I have the equate childrens allergy relief, so that dose might be different. Be sure to check the dose of whatever you have, I have calculated this on 12.5mg per 5ml. I have checked the Benadryl brand childrens benadryl and all that I have seen is 12.5mg/5ml. Last edited by genie; 05-05-2007 at 03:26 PM.

The dose that was given to me yesterday by my vet and the dose that I have found on the internet is 1mg per pound. Be careful not to confuse this with 1ml or 1cc per pound.
