| Warning!! Bar-B-Que can kill Dear Friends, I read posts from you all alot of the time but rarely post. I feelI must post this info as I have not seen anything related to Yorkie's eating Barb Q pork. My 11 month old precious yorkie is in the hospital on IV's with Acute pancreatitis and colitis due, we think, to an ingestion of pork last Tuesday night. I gave her a bite bite of meat whILE i was eating, only because she is such a picky eater and is pretty skinny. I normally give her RC yorkie mixed with Science Diet pellets only. WEll, when I went upstairs, her Daddy gave her more pork. She threw up the next morning , then developed severe diarrhea, we rushed her to Emergency Vet and she is now there, stable , but not out of the woods. He sees it around the 4th of July when people have leftovers of ribs, etc, and feed their dogs large quantitites. Up until now I viewed pork as just another source of protein, albeit , a little greasy. Ours was not greasy, but it hurt my Gia all the same. I am worried sick she will develop a conplication. I lovee my little girl. So, beware what you feed, even meats are dangerous. Denise |

| pork is well known to be bad for yorkies. it can cause severe pancretitis. I nearly killed my first, Ceeby, by giving him one fourth slice of deli ham before I knew any better. I am so sorry your baby is sick. i hope she is better soon. |

| Thanks for the information. Winston has never had "people" food, but it's good to know how bad pork is for our little ones. Sometimes we live and learn the hard way. Sorry to hear your baby is sick, here's to a VERY speedy recovery.

| It may not be the pork itself, but what's ON the pork. Most people season pork when they BBQ. I'm really sorry to hear she got so sick. Since she is a picky eater and is so thin, I'm not surprised she gobbled down real food. I think you should switch her over to all real food. Science Diet is one of the worst dog foods on the market anyway, and one that all Vets. like to push to make extra money. |

| Holly and I are so sorry this happened to your baby. Hope she gets better soon. Good thing I read this too. Some books and websites suggest cutting up hot dogs for training treats for puppies. These do contain Pork though, and the worst kind at that. I do agree that you probably helped a lot of people by posting your story. Thanks.

Thank you for posting this. I had no idea deli ham could be harmful. My two are always at my feet when I make sandwiches, and I do give them a small sliver of ham and turkey sometimes. But I won't give ham anymore.
