you have to be careful from ordering overseas. a few months ago someone here ordered some kind of med that turned out to be a bogus medicine and the puppy almost died from it. But the prices these vets charge is riduclouis.

i have to ask, do you think it is safe to buy frontline on e-bay? i know of a lot of scams on ebay and it would scare me to purchase such a product on line without knowing who is behind the selling.
just like w tanning bed lotion....all the people do is put cheap lotion in it and sell it.
how safe is it??? i am looking for your expertise.

Have you looked on vet supply sites to see what they charge? A couple that I have ordered things from are jbpet.com (ex pens and grooming supplies), lambriarpetsupply.com (spray-on Frontline, peepads, supplements, microchips)

I really do have to tell all of you that are putting those horrible chemicles on your dogs that you are actually causing more harm to them than good. Don't you know that stuff actually goes into the bloodstream for the fleas to drink it and die? Think of what it's doing to your dogs!!!! Why spend all that money killing your dog like that, when you can have a healthier pet for a couple of penny's. Just put 20 drops of Eucalyptus oil in the shampoo and conditioner. Dr. Bronner even has a Eucalyptus fragranced liquid castle soap.
Haven't you ever wondered why our companion animals are dieing of cancer, heart, liver and kidney disease to name a few, in epidemic proportions? Between dog foods, flea preventions, annual vaccinations and over medicated, it's no wonder. You should back up and think about getting your babies healthy instead of killing them.

i just bought some of the Eucalyptus oil yesterdsay and added it to my shampoo. going to use it today on my puppies but wanted to ask you, does the smell make them sick or anything? i was concerned about that.

I often wonder about all these meds we put in/on our beloved pets....we won't go into that though. I have heard of essential oils that you can use instead....I can't remember all of them right now, but there was more then just Eucalyptus. I am going to check those out.

The fragrance won't make them sick, unless of course you use any of the oils too strong.
Pennyroyal is another oil that repells fleas.

Here's another one I found:
Give your DOG a tick-proofing bath! Protect your pet from exposure by steeping 1 tsp. dried rosemary in a pint of boiling water. Strain, cool and pour over fur to provide a tick deterrent that also provides a glossy coat!

I just wanted to share that this subject came up shortly after I joined YT. I asked my Vet about ordering on ebay and he told me that you have to be careful ordering anything like Frontline from overseas. All the ingredients are not the same. I didn't go ahead and check it out, because my Vet is wonderful and I trust him completely. Has anyone here checked out the ingredients from the USA and abroad. The Vet tech also told me to be very wary of Frontline from Austrailia. I'm going to take these suggested doses in next week when I go and ask about that too. I'm all for saving money, but not when it might put my babies at risk.

Would you also ask your vet to be very specific about which ingredients are not the same in the "Australian" version of Frontline. I'm curious, because I don't really see where they are different.

hmmi never thought about spliting the heartgaurd...but that makes perfect sense...bella is only 4.5 pounds...same as frontline....i like the frontline spray idea...

My vet told me NOT to split the heartguard in half because the medicine isn't concentrated evenly throughout the chewable. So, even though you think you are splitting it in half, you are not actually getting half of the active ingredient, and therefore it may not be as effective.

I am curious about alternatives to Frontline. Besides adding oil to their shampoo, is there "organic" or safe, all natural flea & tick medicines? Is the oil equally as effective? We live by woods and I already found a tick on Ralfie once, but I want to put as few chemicals on (and in) him as possible.

Yes, my vet told me this too, but she said I could break in half ONLY for the dogs 6 pound and under. She also knows that my dogs do not go outside a lot, just to potty. I guess she figures that the small dogs are getting adequate protection even if they do not get a full half of the medicine. She also told me that in the event that I get enough dogs, she would mix up the ivermectin for me to give as it would be cheaper. Cannot see that happening for a long while, as everyone is in the house with me. Quite chaotic at times!
