| Yorkie help...Pregnancy or not! Horrofied here Hello everyone...Im new here and so is my girl Destiny who's 3 yrs old. and 3.8 lbsBlack/Gold, Okay here's the thing. And I'm near panicking and quite ashame in a way to say so.Destiny has her heat period sometime around Feb 28,07 and well at that time we had a male not neutered Black Scottish Terrier who is 1 yr old and 16 lbs join our family. My ignorance and my vet's assurance at that time to not worried about neutering the male might be the worse mistake I have ever made and even when this all might be a false pregnancy she could also be pregnant with a dog not her breed but also much bigger than her.The thing is this. The male never acted like he was interested in her during that period and she was the one often acting like a male dog even going for a leg or two...oh might and my 12 yr old son screaming she had turned into something weird. But the thing is this on Easter sunday we noticed her nipples a bit enlarged, but ever since theyre getting bigger but her tummy doesnt seem to be growing and she has not really gained weight. However she's cranky and picky with her eating and the poor male dog gets a biteful every time she gets near. But the funny thing one wont go outside or to bed without the other and they sleep cuddle at nite.So what should I do....if her nipples are getting large and her heat period was almost 2 months ago...Could it be false pregnancy and she needs hormone theraphy and myself a slap so I fix the male and keep my female safe. Or is it too late and the worse that we are facing is C-section....Geez...she's too small...can she make it what should I do....please help somebody...we are definely going to the vet monday or tuesday ...please email me at FrancesLatina@aol.com.Than]k you and to everyone have a nice and safe weekend! |

| Dogs come into heat every 6 months to a year so the fact that it was 2 months ago doesn't matter. Gestation is 9 weeks, 63 days. If she started bleeding on Feb. 28, she was likely fertile around March 9 or so and would be due around May 12. Her abdomen should be getting bigger or tighter unless she's having only 1. Her nipples like you say would be firm and prominent. Her vulva would also still be swollen but not as swollen as when she was in heat. If she is pregnant, at best you'll have a c-section. Worse case of course, but very possible is that you lose your beloved pet. I know you'll get her in there as soon as possible, and have your vet look at her. Hopefully it is a false pregnancy. |

| Possibly pregnant with larger breed Thank you for your replies and advice.I wont be able to go to the Vet until monday afternoon or early tuesday.I hope and pray that my ignorance and love to my new larger breed Scottish terrier that I saved from an abusive home, doesn't bring me the pain of losing my little girl.My wish is for to be false pregnancy and that I can save her life. And if she is indeed pregnant and nothing can be done about it, then that she and the pup/pups make it.To all of you that might think I'm irresponsible....You're right but I was also naive and thought the fact the male has never been interested in her and her tiny size compared to him...might have keep her from this danger...Thank you so much for the replies and your experience. |

| Pregnant Yorkie or not..larger breed Maybe cause first I thought she is much too small to bear babies and second .I never planned in getting another dog until this one.My husband told me the lastnite...perhaps you have gotten a smaller male Yorkie and and let her try ..but this is just sad...he is worried for her ,me and the male dog cause he is a love....funny thing my son likes to say...mommy if she is pregnant she was the one who talked to him into it...cause she was quite a teaser...so why didn't I spayed her.....pure ignorance and selfishness I can say today....God willing this is just hormonal....but if not I'll be burning in here and deep in my heart.... |

| It could well be a false pregnancy. My girl recently went through one. Her nipples did enlarge, her stomach got a bit bigger and her girly parts swelled a bit as well. I knew she wasnt pregnant as she wasnt exposed to an intact male, but took her to the vet because of the odd swelling of her stomach. The vet was able to express milk from her teets. They tested it and then put her on an antibiotic. They also wanted to do an xray to see if there were babies, but as I said, I knew there could not be. Take her to the vet for xray next week to be sure, but fingers crossed it is a false pregnancy.

| I hope all turns out well, but if she is pregnant I would lot let her try to delieve the pup/pups on her own. I would plan a c-section and have your vet on call just in case she goes into labor before the c-section date! And out of this I hope you learned to have your female spayed! She is much to small o be bred, even to a small Yorkie male. Will be crossing my fingers for you and your girl and praying for her to be safe.

| Might be Pregnant w/ larger breed [QUOTE=bruizersmummy]I hope all turns out well, but if she is pregnant I would lot let her try to delieve the pup/pups on her own. She is much to small o be bred, even to a small Yorkie male. Will be crossing my fingers for you and your girl and praying for her to be safe. Thank you.I have taken a pic early this am,but don't know how to load here, it scares me looks so much like some pics someone else's gave for her Dog pregnant belly updates.I'll take her to the vet monday afternoon,do hope is False Pregnancy and needing hormones and to be spay, otherwise with my ignorance and lack of experience I might lose her.Let this be a lesson to other's .I honestly can't believe this is happening to me.Either way with luck is not a pregnancy...but I'm the one at fault regardless....Odd thing we were at the Vet 4 days prior her nipples started to enlarged on April 8th...she had her rabies shot and the Vet didn't think say anything about her tummy then other than she was too small to breed..... Does that makes any difference...I mean the fact she had the shot or can it create a reaction like that as well.?...her tummy is a bit larger and I can pick her up with one hand anylonger...her vulva has also gotten larger and she seems to have a little pad in her left lower abdomen,I don't see any movement and to auscultation the sound might be her tummy making noises or her bowels.Dont sound like a heartbeat...if I'm looking for one higher than 100....I know many are reading and have read my post...so please drop me a line....I'll take the reprimand cause I sure deserve it. However than wont help my little one, she is normally 3.5-3.8 lbs, the larger scotty is 16 lbs and her heat was around Feb 28th. |

| Love to hear an update. Please tell us she not pregnate. And then tell us you have schedule her an appointment to be spayed, she's much too small to not have spayed with another intact male around. |

| Not Pregnant !!!!! ...Hello everyone...sorry about the delay with my response, but much is going on around my house. But the good news are my little one isn't pregnant..Thank you God for that.Just going thru a hormonal stage of changes ,possibly false pregnancy. My Vet wants me to keep an eye on her for the next few days cause her systoms might be also due to female problems that need monitoring. She'll have another check up this friday and meds if her swelling doesn't go down, however she's healthy and eating...been her self so I was told not to worry. My male dog gets neutered this friday and my girl spayed next next if I decide that then. Thank you to all that offered your concerns and advice, let this be a learning lesson of what not to do with a female that's not spayed cause accidental pregnancy happen in all dogs regardless of size of breed. ..Lessoned learned here! |
