I'm coming across a few recipes online for doggy treats that call for peanuts....I thought peanuts where bad for dogs.....are they really ok for dogs to have?

Liver Treats
 
8ozs of liver pork or beef
i head of garlic
1/2 cup of water
1 egg
1/2 tbs of baking powder
1/2 cup of self rising flour

Mix all the above in the blender it is very sticky i pour it in to a pyrex pie plate and cook in microwave for about 7mon and then fip it over and cook for about 2 more min .
cooland slice and freeze i only put enough in fridge for a couplr days

when i make this i have 5 little ones at my feet with there tounges hanging out

I froze the batch that I made at Christmas. It worked well.

Garlic is toxic to dogs.

Both garlic and onion can be toxic to dogs, cats, and other animals. Cats appear to be more sensitive than dogs. In dogs and cats, onions and garlic can cause a breakdown of the red blood cells, resulting in Heinz body anemia. The bulbs, bulbets, flowers, and stems of the garlic and onion can all be toxic. There are some human baby foods that have onion in them, and it is not recommended to feed them to pets. The very small amounts of garlic that are present in some commercial pet foods have not been shown to cause any problems.

Whoa!! Whoa!! Whoa!! I have heard all my life how garlic is good for a dog's coat and to run off fleas. I have never known of a dog dying from garlic. Maybe I have been lucky, or rather they have been. I do not ordinarily feed my dogs garlic but have I been wrong to give it to them at all? Thanks, Sylvia

I would not give dogs or cats garlic or onions. Even in small amounts, why risk it? I don't know why so many dog foods and treats contain garlic and onion powder. Just because dogs like it, does not mean these companies should gamble with even tiny amounts.

Other foods that are toxic include raisins, grapes, chocolate, coffee, macadamia nuts, and mushrooms.

i would not give nuts due to the choking factor ..but i have given peanut butter just a lick off the finger..dogs love it...but it is high in fat content so u must limit it 4 sure

u forgot about all the vaccines flea stuff and heartguard antibiotics and nsaids etc we give our little ones that are all toxic too...especially in some of the amounts vets are dishing them out to our littles..

I give my own puppy shots and I have stopped doing that because I can't tell which of my babies are going to be tinies and when I give them their shots they come down with low blood sugar. The new parents don't seem to mind it and understand that if they give the puppies shots they need to keep a close eye on them. It still scares the heck out of me for them to take the babies to the vets but the vets do insist on giving the shots when they examine them. Most new owners don't have the gumption to tell the vets no. Sylvia

yes! i well understand and then they also use the fear tactics ...so then u are also fearful ur pup will be sick...and the truth be the pup could be sick with or without..if u see these little ones all sick when they get vaccines and meds over and over how the heck do u think they will live a long life to be up to 16 years old...years prior the dogs did not get all these preventatives an lived healthy lives for many years...

LOL I know I have read the recipe above before but I just re-read it in xashleexx's post and it occured to me that they would be delicious rolled in powdered sugar and popped into MY mouth. LOL Sylvia

LOL. agreed! I made them for winston tonight he was in love I was so tempted to try one haha.

though I did just read somewhere on here that wheat germ is really bad for dogs? I tried to research it and didnt really find anything. I found it kind of strange because wheat is used in a lot of dog products...
